Tonight our house became the host home for a stranded student from Germany.
He was on his way to Osage City to stay with a family for this school year. They changed thier mind after his plane had already landed in New York. He has been staying in the living room of one of the teachers while his case worker try to find him a new home. Somehow things came around to Crystal's mom and she decided to take him in.
He's a nice kid. REALLY TALL. I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with this just yet, but I guess thats because I haven't gottten to know the kid yet.
Anybody here ever take a foreign exchange student? What did you think of the experience? Did you do things to get to know the student and enhance thier time here in the states?

I've never personally hosted, but my church has been having German student interns for several years. Everyone who's hosted one of them has been very glad for the experience. Of course, they were all Bible college students, not like them heathen folk! (JK!)
Seriously, I think it depends on the personality of the student. Of course, if they've in an exchange program, they're probably not likely to be terminally introverted.

I was friend with an exchange student from Ecuador. I also knew one from my youth group that was from Germany. I think it would be cool to host a student.

We were a host family for a couple of kids from the African Childrens Choir a few years ago. It was really interesting. We had a prayer time every night, and they would pray that God would keep them safe through the night (since they had a really hard time growing up in Africa). It was sad, but cool that they could be involved in a ministry like the choir.
