I'm not good at delivering this news so I am just gonna cut to the chase...

Yesterday (9/5) doctors discovered a football size tumor on my left ovary. 

I have to go in for more testing to get more details and find out exactly how and when it will be treated. Until then, I am not allowed to be active because it may move or bust the tumor.  I am also on pain killers due to the significant amount of pain it is causing.

I'll admit it's scary and I don't really know what to do or what's coming next.  Prayer would be awesome.

Hey All….

Email is so informal yet it is the easiest way to dispense a message quickly. I apologize that what I am about to share is coming to you in this way but I figure it is just easier this way.

Over the weekend I was in a significant amount of pain in my back. It felt like I had been beaten with a bat about 100,000 times on my left side. After dealing with it for a few days and the fact it was getting worse I went to the doctor on Tuesday morning. My family doctor instantly thought it was kidney stones and sent me for an emergency cat scan.

Well the results showed no kidney stones, but it did show a tumor the size of a football on my left ovary. It’s actually 7 by 12 so it’s a actually bigger than a football, I think.

Now, I know you all have lots of questions now…

1. The tumor is not a solid mass. It is actually all liquid which means it has a very low chance of being cancerous.

2. Because the tumor is liquid I have to be very careful so I don’t bust it. Busting it would be very bad and would ‘put me in a world of hurt’ - think appendix busting but worse.

3. Yes I’m still in pain but I am on pain medicine.

4. Yes it is going to have to be removed and no I don’t know when yet.

I have another doctor’s appointment tomorrow (thursday) to evaluate the tumor again. I should know more then.

Please pray for me and the doctors. I’m not gonna lie…it’s a tad scary to be facing something like this. Also pray that my medical insurance will cover the majority of the expenses and that the company I work for will be cool with everything.

I will be off work the next few days trying to get everything in order. You are welcome to call or stop by.

Well after having a lovely visit to the gynecologist today I have more information.

First, after having the cat scan results and the results for 2 ultrasounds I actually have 2 tumors.  One on each ovary.  One is the size of a newborn's head and the other is slightly smaller.  Both are liquid (think karyo syrup not water).  One has some ovarian tissue on it as well.

So what happens next...

I will be having surgery on Wednesday, Sept. 13th at 7:30am at Bethesda North.  (I have to be there are 5:30am - yikes).

Both tumors will have to be removed.  I do run the risk of losing one or both of ovaries.  The surgery will start laparoscopic.  If they cannot do what they need to do that way, they will either make an incision on my bikini line or from my sternum down.  They don't really know what will happen till they are in there.

The surgery may be out-patient if it is laparoscopic but if it is either of the other options I will probably be admitted and stay the night.

At this point, I am still in some pain and I am still supposed to be careful as far as physical activity because they could bust or twist.
