This record cover kinda struck me as interesting and got me thinking. Is this possibly the beginning of dance music? What do you consider to be the beginning of dance music?

Well, that's nice and all. I am looking for what songs you think are the beginning of dance music.
EDIT: I just realized. There's no way to pinpoint the beginning because all the way back to ragtime and the gay 1890's, that was considered dance music for the day. Technically any music you can dance to is considered dance music.

General consensus is it was the Musique Concrete guys in France back in the 1950's...They were using very early synthesizers and crap to make music.

Well, dance music has been around since the beginning of time. I've heard a lot of house that has a lot of African tribal type stuff in the background, so to me it kinda traces back to that. As far as commercially, Scott Blackwell and Prodigal Sons were probably the first I ever heard, so for me that would have to be the start..

To clarify, Musique concrète was a style, not an artist. But yes, generally considered the forerunners.
Quote
Musique concrète (French; literally, "concrete music"), is a style of avant-garde music that relies on recorded sounds, including natural environmental sounds and other non-inherently-musical noises to create music.
It is a common misunderstanding that musique concrète does not use sounds from musical instruments. These are used right from the earliest works in the genre. The instrument sounds are recorded or sampled from gramophone recordings, they are often manipulated, and are featured along with other sounds in the final work.

I think Kraftwerk really formalized a style, and brought alot of it to the forefront. Lots of early detroit and other german artists were inspired by their (kraft) works.

Dance music has been around as long as music. The Hebrews had their form of dance music before there was even such a thing as a Jew. The first thing they did after crossing the Red Sea is dance to music. The Psalms is full of the lyrics to a lot of dance music. I wouldn't be surprised to find out Jesus would dance to music sung by the angelic choir under the direction of Lucifer long "before" (for lack of better term) time even existed.
As for electronic music on the other hand, well most people I've talked to who have researched it would say Kraftwerk should get that credit, but truth be told it was probably Benjamin Franklin when he discovered electricity by flying that kite during a thunderstorm and got struck by lightning and began to sing, "Aaaaaaahhhhh".
