yeah... that's not a good midi device to use for traktor. You NEED knobs and sliders. Keys and buttons are only good for triggering things, not adjusting their values. You will never be happy with that board.
What style of music are you djing? Do you plan to scratch at all?
I plan to play a variety of music from techno to holy hip hop. Yes I would like to be able to scratch with Traktor. Looks like I need to search the web for a good cheap midi contoler. But Just to goof around I still would like to be able to figuar out how to get a few keys to work. Yes I would like to be able to scratch with Traktor.

Since right now I have now cash. It will give me some practice with a little midi control. Yes I would like to be able to scratch with Tractor.

Ok... if you want to scratch, you will need one of the following:
Vestax VCI-100
Numark Total Control
Either one will work. The Numark is half the price ($250), but the Vestax will probably be better for scratching. You need to go to a music store that has these and try them out.
Unless you want to go the Traktor Scratch route, which will be much more expensive, this is you best bet right now.
You just cannot get around not buying a decent controller though and for hip-hop, you have to had the jog dials. If not for that, I'd strongly push for a
Remote Zero SL
or a
Remote 25 SL
.

If you want to be able to scracth you just can't beat a turntable. Traktor Scratch works very nicely which you can upgrade to. I am most likely buying a total control today at guitar center for 199... I've got both setups (turntables etc) and somehow the controller thing still feels a little cheap to me, but I am getting over it

Oh... I'm not saying you're wrong there Matt. If you are really going to scratch... a lot... you need to get a scratch interface.
Money is more of an issue then though with buying turntables and a mixer.

Yeah it all adds up, thus why I am looking at the total control now.

i really think youll like it to be honest. i have a few little things i have done to give myself abit more space and buttons to play with. i picked up a 20 dollar 10key pad at target. gives me an extra 19 keys plus better use of the hotkey page functions.

Well I just brought it home to hook up and the total control totally does nothing. No power to it. This one is a dud, so I have to return it and guitar center doesn't have anymore, so maybe Thursday ish I'll have one that actually works to try... yeah USB power and no Power cord power.... nada

you dont need it to be midi, although you could make it midi. just set it up in the hotkeys section.

Don't confuse him. That will work find for fx and eq kill switches, but that's about it. He still needs knobs and sliders.

I was just saying neither option worked with the TC. These things are cheapo... it should work fine for a while though I think. Down the road if it leads that way I'll invest in something nicer.
