I have heard from friends and from forums that Numark makes shoddy equipment.  Great innovations...but equipment problems i.e.-faders, platters, etc.  The numark NS7 looks cool but I'm just not sure about their quality.

they used to make bad gear. That changed over the past 10 years.

I have still heard sketchy things about products a lot more recent than 10 years ago.

If I've learned anything at all about choosing equipment in 8 years of DJing it would be this: Don't discredit an entire product line because that manufacturer has something for the wannabe DJ with $500 to his name.  I used a Behringer mixer for 6 years straight and never even had to replace the x-fader.  And I'll put the functionality and durability of the American Audio Velocity against just about any top of the line CD player -- tabletop or dual.  Yet both of those manufacturers make some crappy equipment that I would never dream of wasting my money on.  Numark has purposely provided equipment for DJs with every size budget.  It's not their fault if you can't tell the difference between cheap stuff for newbies and professional-grade.  That's my $0.02 anyways.

Isn't it funny that we consider this to be a problem on any mixer when they are MADE to wear out and be replaced?

I don't consider it a problem.  I fully expected it to "go" any day, but it just never did.  Eventually that became a good thing, since they discontinued the product when Behringer re-did their whole mixer line several years ago and began using a different crossfader that was not interchangeable with the previous one.

My point in saying that was simply to point out that even the first thing to go on any mixer was still working 6 years later.

I believe that Vestax and Rane makes better faders & crossfaders.  Behringer mixers are crapola!  I would buy a behringer amp before I would buy their mixer.  But then again if I was buying an amp I would probably buy a Crown.  You are right some companies make some nice products amidst a bunch of junk.  However, there are some companies who want to make quality equipment on every level.  A lot of it is preference and pocket book.  I have actually been throwing around the idea of waiting for the NS7 which is Numark.  I know they have made some changes at the top levels of the company so that could be a good thing.  Only time will tell.  I just don't know if I am willing to bet $1000+ dollars on it yet.

DJ Tech Tools did a recent re-review of it and didn't like it. Well... not as a standard midi controller anyway.
