Hey Shana,
No real plans to move to Toronto unless a primo job opportunity avails itself...Jordan and Susan are in some married student residence at U of T while she finishes her medical degree...
I keep hoping Mike puts out another mix like that subsonic dub theory one, I should bug him some more about a follow-up.

Hello everyone!! Hi Shana! A lot of good advice there. You may admit DM4C fizzled out for a bit there, even though the network still exists- we should build on all the previous hard work people have committed themselves to. The internet is a great place for sharing ideas, but can prevent anything from getting done as we still all sit in the comfort of our own homes and such. I am more interested in a group that actually meets together as well - just trying to get people going again. There is an individualism that is rampant in Canada and I think it prevents this kind of thing. I would be interested in meeting with some Toronto people in this area/ministy/art-form/trade, just to casually discuss the state of whats going on in Toronto, and what any "groove" fellowship would look like. I have the feeling everyone may go into this
expecting/wanting it to be a certain way, so I think purpose is key. Anyone have any suggestions for a place to meet.?
RE Detriot techno: as an escape from my computer based studio I got a non-computer setup going on in the living room, drummachine makes beats and also controls rythmic patterns on analog rack and Korg M1 - so Im looking to get into this sound at some point.
RE India: Anyways, Internet here is 35 ruppees and hour ( a dollar?) and I still need lunch money, and Im going to be de-hydrated soon so going back to the hotel. I want to by a Duklha drum and hook up with some Indian fusion musicians here. I also plan to go clubbing at the Fantasy Discoteque at the Park street hotel, apparently international DJ's sometimes make it out here - pretty bizzare for Calcutta?
Very thirtsy,
(geckos and ants in my hotel room!!!)

Well, I think we've established we need to get together some time.
Jeremy, when are you back in Toronto?
Any others, let's just set a date and place.

well youre more than welcome to announce your meetings in DM4C... you never know whos still around who might be available for stuff...
we always had a combination of house meetings and internet mailinglists to stay in touch, DM4C was the main networking one, to find DJs interested in spinning or to connect with people interested in your project(s), we had several little mailinglists too, one everytime we started a new thing, except unless everyone saw each other every week like in Toronto at church or something, and we just called each other.
to be honest, I didnt know DM4C was going to be around longer than a couple years. its still there, Im still here, all the DJs are still around, so whenever anyone starts something new I guess we all want to know about it... a lot of us have gone on to do some cool things, I intend to get back more involved down the road, although right now people probably dont think Im up to much...
what you accomplish is really only limited by your imagination, and how you find ways to use resources available to you. just let God be first, birth your visions in prayer and trust Him to be in control, if its not about Him then whos it about, right,
God can use you anywhere He wants to. when you pray He might give you some powerful supernatural ideas you would not have thought of. and Hes the only one that can carry it out really. to try to do stuff without God is not likely to succeed but you also have to trust that He put the gifts in you for a reason, and He knows what they are for.
between us all back in the day, we were DJing and playing out, throwing our own parties, some guys were passing out water bottles at raves, making flyers and tracts, and a lot of just talking to kids at events and stuff. if God has called you to make a record, or do an outreach, or some people go part time or full on into ministry or the music industry or anything, or just reach out to kids in our spare time, or any combination, or something I didnt mention, go for it...
peace & love, dont forget Habakkuk 1:5, and feel free to get a fresh new verse(s) too that defines your mission statement(s). feel free to connect with churches or whatever, find people who have started up ministries and stuff who can give you advice, like a mentor, if you can find anyone, at your church or somewhere. otherwise, the Holy Spirit...

I will be back (i.e. effectively non-sick and time-zone adjusted) by lets say the 1st weekend of August.
I will think more on where and when to meet after Im back. Right now Im concentrating on volunteering
and not getting malaria or run over by rik-shaws (hehehehe) Still havent found any trance-heads over here, but I did do some dancing to hip-hop and dance-hall-reggea. I will have a bunch of India photos when I get back too

I just cleared out my storage and found stacks of stuff from the StreetBeatz dayz... old event flyers and stuff... and made some scrapbooks out of that stuff...
and found plenty of emails and stuff and some things just really stood out to me...
about getting on our faces before God and letting Him use us in any way He chooses, inside or outside the scene, just giving ourselves to Him... and StreetBeatz and the whole thing going on in southern Ontario, that was really all about an extension of the revival movement in Toronto in the beginning...
and there was no little things going on... it was about taking over... like an army working together for God to see stuff happen... with supernatural power, not our own but Gods, doing His will for His glory
and it hit me, do we really want to throw little parties, do we want to make a small impact... when we can take over...
I mean if youre working with a church or drop in centre and you can throw parties that will reach kids thats one thing... but on the other hand...
I was thinking that since most of us are probably gifted in production... why not get making records and getting that music into the hands of the DJs so the gospel can be preached in every single nightclub in Toronto... thats about taking over... with less effort and for some of us we would be working on target in our gifts rather than struggling and spreading ourselves too thin... also to note is that creativity is of God and He can do the supernatural, giving us a sound that is more powerful than anything out there because it is the sound of the anointing... bringing in the presence of God, like when David played the harp worshipping God and the demons fled from Saul... think of the power in that...
has anyone heard that track by Ils where it talks about angels singing Come, Come Weeping, Seeking...
www.ilsmusic.com
also since drumnbass is still huge in Toronto any dnb djs can get spinning stuff by rubik records etc, we can build on each others stuff out there, supporting each other in what already exists rather than reinventing the wheel... because after all its not about us its about God...
so all this to say, if we get on our faces before God and say whats the most effective way to preach the gospel and take over most effectively because what were up against is thousands of people who desperately need Christ and the gospel for the sake of their eternal destination... and when everything is sinking to just speak the Word, which is Spirit and Life can make all the difference... I myself can testify that one song on the radio at one point prevented me from taking my own life when I was a teenager... how much could we impact thousands of lives if we just got down to it and said Here Am I God Send Me

You have to start somewhere Shana. Rome wasn't built in a day. Hitler didn't couquer Europe in a day and neither did any other great military leader.
You also have to be careful when stating things like:
"do we really want to throw little parties, do we want to make a small impact... when we can take over..."
right after:
"about getting on our faces before God and letting Him use us in any way He chooses, inside or outside the scene, just giving ourselves to Him..."
The two ideals may or may not always go hand in hand. We can loose sight of the fact that while globally big is "better," what matters to God more is the impact we have on those around us in the small, local scale.
God has defin. called some to be larger and some to be smaller. We should simply work together where ever and whenever possible

I totally agree Reds, Im just thinking in terms of Toronto, most of us locally have a lot more experience in production and performing, than in promoting, and Im thinking, long term, could many of us possibly make a greater impact in Toronto, and southern Ontario, and mobilize ourselves more effectively, by focussing on our gifts in producing music for secular DJs, and getting as many secular gigs as we can, rather than sticking together in one venue and all the work involved in promoting parties... promoting is a full time job...
just curious, I mean the exception to that is when youre backed by a church or ministry because they have a lot more resources like people, money, and free venue, to help out putting on events, then you can focus on DJing, but otherwise it seems like a greater impact with less work to DJ out in many venues, and most of us here in Toronto area would be focussing on our gifts then. most of us are DJs, producers, and live artists, just check dm4c.com (over 150 of us), and I think we should be doing our own parties, but also, thinking... 12 DJs spinning regularly at one club night that might draw a crowd of 50-200, or 12 DJs spinning in clubs throughout the city 1-5 nights a week for events drawing that many - multiplies our impact - and producing tracks that the hundreds of secular DJs in this city might spin... might get the message out to thousands quicker than a party that may be largely attended by Christians anyways and perhaps half the crowd might be nonChristians... and only have time to do a handful of these events each year, and many clubgoers would never find their way into the event, whereas if several of us made a point to make a targeted impact throughout the city we could reach a lot of people together... just an idea really
I mean we used to throw 1-5 parties a month here, for 2-3 years, in the StreetBeatz days, many of us have lots of experience, many of the DJs are still around and arent really DJing out right now, but would do this if we all got into it. I know for myself I had no time to perform when I was promoting. we have a lot of people here and a lot of talent.
regardless I think the most important thing is where our hearts are at, are we Gods, and secondly doing what HE has called us to do
but for myself... I think Id rather get serious and start up a new label now and get performing in clubs all over the city than in promoting a party now because I think I could reach 100s more that way - and just want to know if the other artists producers DJs in this city Toronto might be thinking the same way, Im not talking next week, but over the next how ever many years, after taking all this time to learn to produce, putting it to work for you... we got lots of producers djs and live artists here, man, we could get a lot done
if not thats totally cool
I know Jeremy C is backed by a church and could probably quite easily put on events (and I just might perform there when I get around to it Jeremy if you like) but most of us are probably artists producers and DJs that arent backed by our churches in this ministry and I am itching to get into the secular scene and make some impact at some point in the near future
just want to find out if anyone is interested in talking about it cuz we can do this, if we want to, if were ready for it, and if we work at it. for some it might just mean putting together a mix CD and rather than playing once every couple months at a Christian event playing out a few times a month anywhere in the city, just working at it... if no, then no, thats totally cool
we got a lot done in the past due to the sheer number of people getting stuff done and being well networked, supporting each other, and sharing our resources (our events swapping DJs etc), we can do this again, whether we are actually doing the promoting ourselves, or expecting the secular clubs to do all that for us and focussing on getting more DJ gigs or whatever
sorry so long Im just trying to clarify what I mean... more DJs artists producers out there mobilized into more venues might reach more people faster, and most of us in Toronto are better at playing music than promoting events
and my heart breaks when I see drumnbass party pics, the drunkeness and depression, when I think the presence of just one or a few Christians DJing in those parties might make all the difference in the world, like salt, like leading by example, like Christlikeness, just because they are Djing those parties and everyone will come to know them over time
any takers... or am I the only one seeing this perspective...

Yeah, I'm not knocking what you are saying. On a local level, that does need to happen. You just got to build up the network of people called to do that first

we have a solid network of DJs already Reds, last time we called a local meeting on short notice about 40 people showed up with a few days notice, mainly performers ie DJs. we have DJs just sitting here waiting for someone to take some initiative. I worked in Torontos industry for about six years so I can list about 20 guys off the top of my head. anyways Reds I dont know maybe you werent around when we were doing the StreetBeatz thing but Im not kidding when I say for 2-3 years we had 1-5 Christian events each month, because we have a LOT of people here in southern Ontario that were involved.
anyways Im going to stop explaining because Im not making any commitment to start anything up I just wanted to know if anyone reading this was ok, lets get out there and get playing and consider supporting each other in this. Reds Im a pro and Im not kidding and I dont tend to waste my breath and piss around I get stuff done when I decide to get stuff done it happens.

I don't know if you've been watching the upcoming events Gsynth, but my church has been hosting what we call Zeo Parties around every 3 months. Currently, no one from Tastyfresh have come out, that I know of. Except ofcourse DJ Shagz, who's spun with us.
Our goal is to get to monthly events (or even more regular), but our own youth aren't all that interested in electronic music. There's a few faithfuls, but not enough. I think we should definetly have Church "sponsored" events like thus, for Christians to meet like minded people. But, I agree about getting into the clubs. I'm going to try for it after September once I'm married. Too busy now
