How's the story? I'm not into all the eye candy. Esp. since the eye candy DIDN'T exist in the original show.

The story is great! There's comedy (Spritle is awesome). There's drama. There's nice action scenes... Dave, you gonna love it!

It was very cartoony but I still enjoyed it. I like it for the good family dynamics within in the Racer family. I especially enjoyed the performance of Matthew Fox as Racer X; his performance was the most emotionally moving to me. I'm very glad Keanu Reeves turned down the role when it was first offered to him. Plus there's a funny LOST reference between Racer X and Taejo Togokhan; Matthew Fox also being the actor who plays Jack Shepherd on LOST. Smiley

My friend devon kept on about how great it was, and he is a huuge anime buff. Usually when he approves a movie, then I know its good. I can't wait to see it.

You need to know going in that it's got plenty of cheese, and a lot of the fighting and action are very campy.

Here's a good Spritle clip to give you an idea:  http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808406004/video/7633142/

It's more video game than Anime to me, and reminds me of Tron that way (but it's not that good.)

It does have some good things in it though, as one of the main themes is art vs commerce.

Do you do what you do because you love it, or do what you do to make money?

Once money enters the equation, can it still be art?

That theme was probably my favorite thing about the movie.

Not being able to tell what was happening in the races, or who was winning...NOT my favorite thing.

If you're looking for a family movie where good triumphs over evil, this is "ok."

I'll say this. Speed Racer is eye-candy. But... come on... paying tribute to the original series? Don't think so.

You're right. It needed more fast-paced, run-on sentences delivered with stiff, dead-pan expressions.

yeah... the clip sealed it for me. I won't see it.

No offense, Dave, but you're awfully quick to critique a movie you've yet to see.
