Look, all I'm saying is that they're style is very unique, almost too unique.
No no, I understand. I'm just intrigued at the dynamics that causes. I would generally say that what we need in EDM today is more unique artists. I'm a trance and progressive DJ right... so inside that you can hear ANY amount of formulaic music. There's brand new stuff coming out, that sounds just like other brand new stuff coming out... and this has been happenning for ages.
For that reason, I appreciate artists like Shiloh who (intentionally or otherwise) have a unique sound. If I have to build in and out of their tracks with a few other ones, and work a little harder to make it acoustically fit, I'm fine with that. I feel the same way about Chemical Bothers; mixing most of their stuff into my sets verbatim is a serious challenge.
And I think that challenge produces good things. Maybe in an individual mix you'll alienate a those listeners who don't like being pushed a certain way acoustically. But maybe you'll contribute to new definitions and styles, pushing what's allowed to be called "trance" or something like that.
Just thinking out loud.
