Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now I’m found.
Was blind, but now I see.

Actually, the movie focused on free speech issues, not apologetics. It's more about how schools, U's and the science community in general shut out and punish anyone against evolution.

i had a good 3 paragraph response written out against the movie, but i decided to scrap it so the thread didn't get locked.

I still typed this part out though, because I spent 15min. writing my response and i wanted something to show for it.

Carry on.

I just recently picked up a book about post-enlightenment science and relegation of faith to the back burner and after reading it, it doesn't really surprise me that the film (albeit a noble effort) 'flopped'. There's more forces that Richard Dawkins at play here and there systemic issues that won't get fixed by a movie.

ID being torpedoed is an obvious outcome given that the predominate paradigm in our country and within the scientific community is to gloss over the big question of 'Why'. We ask How, what, when, where, and cause and effect questions but never really assume that there is a purpose behind anything.

In that respect, I think a conversation like this needs to start somewhere other than hollywood; people need to sit and reason some of this out in the academy first.

My loving .02,

The movie, again, is really about free speech issues, not ID vs Neo-Darwinism. The backdrop just happens to be that debate.

For a flop, it sure made the top 10 this past weekend and pulled in over $3.4 mill to date. That's pretty good for a documentary. It's also a butt load more than the $0.178 mill that "Where in the World is Osama Bin Ladin" documentary. It's also #8 so far for grossing out of all political documentaries since 1982. And remember... that's after 1 weekend and some change. Only Fahrenheit 911 had a higher grossing opening weekend.

Out of all documentaries, it's #24.

I expected all the critics to slam it. It's not a popular topic. Medved gave it a great review on the radio this weekend.

Seriously, a flop??? Come on. Go see it. People don't want you to watch a movie that sheds light on how the education and science community doesn't want anybody to point out that their baby is just a theory and not a law. They don't want you to know how they have fired people and censored them for saying and believing things that don't fit the party line.... and this is America. You know... a place of free speech and supposedly open minds.

^ ok so first of all.... i wasnt stating that it WAS a flop... i just HEARD that it was a flop. i was too lazy myself to lookup the actual numbers. yes i do understand that documentaries dont gross much money at the box office compared to most major films.

and yes i will see it. im not stating that its good or bad, because i clearly said before i have not seen it, so because of that i can't make any judgements of it.

i was just saying that i wanted adidax to share his opinion on it. i wanted to hear what he had to say. i do think the movie sounds like a wonderful concept though.
