turning off the deck on my last track would really annoy me. not only that but mixing from the last guys track keeps the energy going.

'Course. But maybe you want that. Make a bang with your arrival. It's not uncommon.

depends on the situation and the need. is it more important to keep the energy of the night going or annouce the arrival and the new DJ. oakenfold does it appearently.

Exactly. And that's my point. Depends on the situation.
If the situation is J Puddy is playing, then BOOM, you're gone!
hahaha....

I agree i think there times when its appropriate to make a point making the change over obvious! Also some times it can be done and create energy. Ive seen djs do it a way that bigs-up the dj who was on before them and then at the same time announces themselves.
But some times its appropriate to beat mix in and keep the energy going! It depends on whats being played the crowd etc

it's easier to set than warp markers though. You basically set a cue point on a repetitive beat/sound and then in the cue edit, make it a beatgrid marker and the name it. Once that's done, it's just a matter of verifying the bpm and setting that. It's fairly fast and easy. You can do that in a quarter to half the time it takes to warp a track.
If you don't slave the deck or hit the sync button, you can still manually beatmatch the track to another deck. Once you do that, it should stay in sync until you mix out of the original track.

I think the previous DJ would rip you a new one right there in the booth if you did that. This isn't how the pros are doing it right now. You have to mix into the other set. You are building a night, not changing it.

Meh, the technique is still often employed during multi-genre events or when a headliner particularly wants to "stand out" (I'm not saying it's right, just that it happens).

Yeah, exactly. I've seen it done. I've done it.
I think it's inappropriate, therefor amusing and cheeky.

I think the scene could benefit from some thunderdome action.

I'd kill the announcer as well.

These new school DJs. Never learnt to beatmatch, can't handle ribbing by other DJs.
Shame.
