I think Traktor is superior to Serato and like a few have mentioned in previous posts, its mostly the Rane brand recognition thats driving the 'reliability' angle.

Tracktor's timecode has twice the amount of tracking data! This may not make much of a difference for the CD's but for vinyl.. top notch! I like the interface and the playlist features but many of the other gimmicks like effects and looping are almost unreasonable for live performances.

For some people, the issue may be asthetics...

Has anyone used either Tracktor Scratch or Serato Scracth in Windows VISTA?! Does it work?

whoa... hold on. Download Stryke's cstone set from www.castthefire.com. The looping and FX are constantly being used by him. A pro can work those like no how and his set was all traktor with the final scratch interface. In fact, it was pretty much his last show before he fully switched over to traktor scratch.

It depends on the style of music you play, but looping can be a very essential tool. Of course, with something like Traktor, it's also about how easy it is to access it. Thank God for midi.

Cool, i'll check out Stryke's set!

I agree though live remixing of that sort is pretty wicked. Speaking of MIDI, have you ever used any of those new MIDI enabled mixers now. A lot of these high $ tractor or serato certified mixers seem to be around. Are they worth the money?

For my part I've decided to forego a Traktor mixer, as I don't see it being as portable as the Traktor hardware interface. It'd be fine for the studio though.

Right now, I'm using a Novation Remote Zero SL for traktor. If I change, it will be to the numark Total Control b/c it fits my style the best. The vci-100 is nice, but it's over priced for what it does and doesn't do.

yeah I use the effects quite a bit in my mixes for that little bit of "flair" and looping I'm just starting to use... I was initially trying to get my handle on 4 deck mixing but I've realized I probably won't want ot master that until after I've mastered looping and "live remixing"

I've been reading up on Serato Itch today.. Looks promising.

Has anyone seen the Numark NS7 (http://www.numark.com/ns7)
Or the Vestax VCI-300(http://www.vestax.com/v/products/players/vci-300.html)?

The future of mixing?! Wicked stuff but for the price... ? Ouch  smiley18

Next thing people will be spinning records in virtual reality or scaning your brain for that song thats stuck in your head. lol

The ns7 is a huge kit to carry. I think a bunch of people will buy it when it first comes out and then feel pretty stupid when they try to haul it into a club or to a gig somewhere. I know ppl are going nuts about it, but still... too bulky.

The VCI-300 looks better. It would be a winner if it also came with a traktor config as well.

Even with a large midi controller and a midi keyboard its still better than lugging 2 boxes of tunes. Not sure about the size of the numark but i know someone who brings her large xponent and mac book pro all in one tidy road ready bag!

I think its only a matter of time till someone releases their own traktor config for the vci 300!

coffins are heavy.
when i travel with me gear (2-4 times per month) i have my dell in my laptop backpack and then i have another shoulder style laptop case that holds my total control, sound card, cables, paperwork.
2 bags = all my gear.
