Thinking about starting a Christian DJ Service / need help

Hello friends,
I am thinking of becoming a Christian DJ and have a few questions….
* Would it be logical to have a turntable along with a digital mixer that plays MP3’s and or CD’s?
* What type of mixer would you recommend that would not break the bank?
* Would you recommend those mixers that are the “all in one” that has two CD decks, two jog wheels, effects, etc. If so what kind.
I want to play all Christian music only. I would play things from Holy Hip Hop to Techno and anything in between. As long as it glorifies God.
The name of the DJ service will be “Thumpin 4 Christ Ministries / Christ Driven DJ Service”
The mission statement will be " Let's spread the gospel by sound so we can be driven by Jesus Christ"
Those are the questions I have for right now. PLEASE supply me all the tips, ticks, suggestions, do’s, don’ts, etc.
I need all the help I can get. Please pray that this will be God's will and NOT mine.
Thank you ALL in advance !!!!
Blessings,
Brandon York

I used to do this exact thing. You need to first examine your community and see if it would be profitable for you to do this. Is there a need? Is there demand? Where would your gigs come from?
As far as equipment goes, it depends on what you want to do as a DJ as well as what source you will get your music from. CD? MP3? I wouldn't go vinyl for Christian music. There simply is not enough.
I will post more later when I have more answers.

Listen to Chris here...you have some misguided perceptions of what you are going to run into. Unless you convince a few local churches or wedding type arrangements there wont be many to play for. Learning to DJ would be a good place to start, go from there.
Laptop and Traktor Studio + controller gets you going.

not only that, but you may find that you wont make any money unless you play ALL christian music (CCM, pop, rock, rap).

I just bought 2 Staton c.314 and I have a mixer. I really want to create an atmosphere of intense worship through electronic mixes. This is just ME and how I am approaching the same dream you have. I hope it helps......
It starts at home, my focus is going to be worshiping. I bought them to use in my devotional time to God. Its my way of worshiping at home. As I learn what works for me and when I am comfortable worshipping with them then I might step out a little and do I live mix for some friends and I to worship with. it starts internally and slowly works it way to External (private/public). Again this has just been my expierence....Were it goes from there God only knows. I live in a small city and there is not alot to do here. I know there is a culture out there....as far as making the $ Alex....T4cm....If you worship with all of you're heart people will follow you into worship....I know of few different ministries who do exactly what you want to do. Club Worship and Extreme prophetic has a ministry as well.

its awesome that you worship with the decks, i do just that on occasion. but T4CM wants to start a DJ company that plays exclusivly christian music. which is awesome. but it wont work it if wont make money. just like if i wanted to start a christian music store that no one bought from.

yeah dude, just because you have your heart in the right place don't mean diddly squat when it comes to running a business. If you are worshiping behind the decks, thats cool, but seriously trying to run a business requires so much more. You need to do research, marketing, find out who likes what, throw yourself out there, and get involved in the community. Make friends with the youth pastors and let them know your intentions...that you are trying to earn their business. If you don't, you will find yourself doing a LOT of free shows. A few freebies are fine, but when you end up doing them a LOT then you have a problem.
Maybe I am getting ahead of myself. Just be a smart businessman and a better promoter. Oh and you WILL require a bunch of CCM/Rock stuff. There is NO getting around it with church culture.

Are you paying for the kit yourself or is someone else fundin it.. dependin on that choses what kit you can or need to get. Im not sure what stage your at.. Jus remember your guna have to get the music as well as the kit. An depending on what the audience are like you may need to keep up to date with many and it can become quite constly.
We were able to get funded for ours and were lucky enough to get some technic 1210s, 2x behringer b300 speakers, 2x pioneer cdj100s, (fink 100) a Korg Kaos Pad 2, and some mics.
It worked really well, i got taught to DJ, an we had some really good events goin for a few years.. now though alot of the youth hav moved on and not so many came through.. one pioneer deck broke, 1 speaker blew.. the technics (shamefully - like most the kit) appear to rarely be used now.. Im currently at uni so i dont get them out, the fundin is not there to keep them up. Originally you could rent (people like me) to do mates birthdays, but i was only one giving any money towards.
I know have my own set of Axis 9 CD decks, and a Total Control.
So make sure you look at what is happenin.. and is it better to buy a midi controller such as the Total control, or a CD package such as the axis 9 with a mixer, or pioneers cdj's. If you already have a laptop maybe a midi controller and soundcard may be a better option.. see how things go and what funding or money you make before upgradin. If you know other DJs in the area get them in with their kit aswel. Depends if your tryin to look cool with decks.. or your doing it for the music and people

Dude as awesome as that sounds there is no way to have only glorifying God music, There just isn't enough. You will need to play stuff that is clean. And do it all though Christ who strengths you.

you missed the point. He's not doing just dance music. There is PLENTY of Christian hip hop to keep him an active playlist, but the major issue is more youth events for churches require a BIGGER variety including rock. He seriously needs to invest in emailing some labels to get there promos.

Yeah def don't look at getting them. It's the point i was making. Our area was lucky enough to get funded and got the technics, but now there just sitting their doing nothing. You gotta take a real good look at what's around, and what is guna be needed in the future. Paying out a lot on kit could end up a waste.
They do have kit that aint being used much, think only when im back down from uni, but they never sell it. I'd love to buy the technics.
