Two things.......
1. This should go in the producers forum...
2. At least you're honest. No beat. No bass. Holy hopping midranges, Batman!

Ya good job on your first track. You got further with it than I expected you would. I thought it was gonna all be like the same beat and rhythm/chords throughout the whole thing, and to my surprise ...(well it was..)..hehe
You certainly could have done a lot worse for your first track. I can see you were focused mostly on the scratching sounds, and you did pretty good at it. Your first lesson is this....switch up the beat and rhythms often.
Lesson #2.....don't make your first tracks so long....so people can actually bear to hear it in order to give you solid advice lol.

switch up the beat and rhythms often.
Not to disagree with ya jason, but this could prove to be bad advice. Imagine, if you will, a song that every thirty seconds or so the beat changed, from breaks to 4/4 and back again. Perhaps even a different breakbeat every change. My point is this, the listener would seem to get the idea that the producer had no direction, no inspiration, and no clue how to write a song. Switching the beat often is probably very bad advice.
Mikey, I'd say develop your ability to write solid basslines, good melodies, catchy hooks, and genuinely likeable dance music. In other words, become a song writer first. Producing and all that other stuff will fall into place when it's needed.
OK After giving it a listen, here's my thoughts. The music seriously lacked the ability to be music. It was one note droning on and on endlessly. The beat never picked up. DUN...DUN...DUN...DUN...DUN...DUN...DUN...DUN...DUN...DUN...DUN...DUN...
The scratching sounded ok and pretty cool the first few times you did it. After that, it just became annoying. The thing about this track, is that it felt like it was an intro to something great that never became. You had a few key elements that captured my attention. Next you need to build on that and blow us away. about 1 minute in, that beat should have taken off and just been bangin away. You should have had a nice bassline riding right along with that. the one note should have exploded into some beautiful music that was irresistible. and the scratching should have been a footnote to a really great dance track. I'd like to see you work more on this. I think you can develop it into something fantastic.

Kind of odd to assume the meaning I had was to take it to that extreme. I simply meant that there needs to be enough variation to keep the song interesting. Imagine if the song (as it is...) just never changed for the entire duration of 7 minutes....ICK! So not to be contradictory, yet just putting more emphasis on the fact that there ought to be something to keep sweetening it up, and of course keep it BALANCED. Balance is important in anything.

My 2 cents listen to the style you are looking to produce, listen to it allot then try copying one of the tracks then strip it down and add your own elements. or start just writting a killer drum track then add the bass then the melody but choose a style and stick to it for a few years

well considering the tempo of it, all the scratching, and what Carl said, might want to take this one in a hip hop direction. just a thought.
