so here's the specs on what I'm doing for a setup. Can't beat this case and using a flat panel.
The case:
Thermaltake Model #: VF1000BWS
http://c1.neweggimages.com/NeweggImage/productimage/11-133-035-02.jpg
Components:
- Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU ATX 12V 2.0 500W Power Supply
- ASUS M2A-VM AM2 AMD 690G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
- AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ Windsor 2.8GHz Socket AM2 89W Dual-Core Processor
- CORSAIR 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
- Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
- SAMSUNG 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Model SH-S203B
- SYBA PCI to Firewire 1394a 3+1 ports controller card
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
I did the basic build today, ran a POST test, its all good. Just need to get rest of the parts next week. Case is light enough to carry, very nice.

i use a laptop now, unfortunately, i am forced to use Virtual DJ, and it's almost impossible to scratch with, so i don't like it too much. is there another one that i could get that would work way better? something extremely cheap, yet better than VDJ?

Hi guys..
Its good to see people takin an interest as the technology evolves.. Many top DJs will say say how you cant beat decks an will put down those who use others, especially laptop DJs.
For those discussion Desktop against laptop:(obviously money comes determines what you can do but) personally i use a laptop. You can not say a desktop is quicker than laptops these days.. I am lucky an managed to save an get a Macbook Pro as I am studyin Media. This system is much quicker than most of the general PCs that you will buy. Obviously I'm not sayin to get this but Im sayin there is power in laptops, just look at what you need an go for a little higher if you can.
The good thing with laptops, light all in one, can get a stand to put it next to all ur decks etc. Can you imagine travelin to another part of the country.. i have one bag for laptop, i also hav a midi controller, but thats it... can you imagine carryins desktop, mouse, keyboard, monitor. (its a lot of work)
One major point guys, what happens if some one knocks your lead out, or if the fuse blows in your plug controllin ur decks/ desktop. If im doin my own stuff speakers are on a seperate sound source so they'l still b workin.. and as laptops hav batterys i can keep goin for up to at least 2 hours.. whilst tryin to sort the porblem out.
As for "Radio DJ Jay", scratch is rarely as greatly produced with out decks.. whether that is using numarks virtual vinyl, serato scratch, final scratch (although they have stoped producing)
Watch out for all the new stuff.. numark have created a new 2 table platter with mixer... that is link with serato's itch..

check out M-Audio Torq, but if you can save some, check out Traktor Scratch.

hey, man, welcome to tastyfresh, since I see it as your first post.
this is not a "vs" discussion, just some of us have had curiosity about using desktops for lack of funds, me included. I think most know that laptops can be just as fast as well.
If someone can get one built or do it themselves, desktop pc in a small lanboy case or shuttle case can be a nice alternative. For some, me included, the extra things isn't a problem. For time being I will be using mine for Djing til one day I can afford a Macbook Pro or Alienware. Personally, think I did decent building a pc that can come close to those machines.

hey djdunamis, indeed was my first post or two, sorry if made it a "vs" lol.
The one different i would jus say... (not sure exactly bout them lanboy units people have been talkin about) is to jus make sure you have your power firmly connectd somehow.. incase it gets tripd over.
My mate uses a fairly cheap laptop.. hooked with serato an from what i understand he aint had a problem.
Suppose something to think is try keep an extra copy of all music on an external hard drive incase your internal HD breaks.. then u can hook up strraight away. I no here in UK i can get 750 gb for £110. at least.

Those old Powerbook G4s were pretty tough, no doubt about that. But they burnt my hands.
