...a guy like Jason Upton has been fighting for 10+ years to convince the "church elders" that dancing is OK.

old clip, but you'll get the idea
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4R39hugUqI

i mean, SERIOUSLY! : what have we become that we're fighting for such silly, inconsequential things that the bible does NOT forbid?  pardon the language, but what the hell are we doing??

I think part of what he's saying is:

It gets ridiculous when Christians get all hung up with little things like dancing or movies, or books, or every little thing they can nitpick to death, when we should be focusing all that energy on reaching the lost, feeding and clothing the poor, etc.

Some people get so entangled in the nitpicking, it ties them up as kind of a bondage so that they can't spend time on what really needs their attention.

I love sitting... er... standing in a church as the congregation sings a praise song that mentions something about their feet dancing and yet... they stand stiff as boards.

Drives me nuts. Oh well.

at my church i would say that during worship about 20-30% of the ppl (including my wife) are dancing up and down the isle and at the alter.  Lips Sealed they encourage all forms of outward worship expression...

even the goofy flag / banner wavers....  Huh

yeah... that's a lot of overkill for me. I'm just not into that. I went to one service like that years ago when my wife and I first got married. WOW... culture shock.  We never went back.

I like mildly charismatic services. Where it is ok to dance and yell out "amen" and such. Flag wavers are ok to if they take it to the back. That's how my youth group was back in the day.

But I don't like overkill either. If the worship seems to be causing to much discord, then it's lost it's purpose you know what I mean?

Yeah I've thought that many times, or they need to mention something about how David danced before they do it, so it smooths over.  I bet if you broke out a 909 and a bassline the church might get a little groovier.

Me being raised in a pentecostal enviroment it always made me chuckle when in chapel service at a my college(a conservative church of christ/christian church college) we would sing about raising hands or dancing and nobody did. lol
