I just discovered that since my last purchase (26-11-2007) the prices went through the roof for me, an increase of 47%!!

because the prices are now stated in euros in stead of dollars, but the numbers (1.49,1.99,2.49) remain the same.

is this for real?
what do the americans experience? is there any price increase?

I enjoy beatport, but... this is a bit too much for me... grr...

I wouldn't say screwed, when the dollar goes back up in the next few years, it will virutally be the same.  I can't see places like beatport setting world prices based on currency fluctuations all the time?  Then again, I don't live in the EU so take that with a grain of salt

yup, I'm a bit pissed...
here is the conversation with beatport-support so far

Customer 01/29/2008 12:05 PM
Is it correct that since my latest purchase (26-11-2007) prices went up 46 % for me because the trackprices are now stated in euros in stead of dollars and the numbers (1.49,1.99,2.48) remain the same?

Response 01/29/2008 12:14 PM
Sorry you are having troubles. Unfortunately your currency is determined by your IP address and cannot be changed by Beatport.
You would need to speak with your ISP for more information.

Let me know if you need anything else.
Thanks

Customer 01/29/2008 12:46 PM
so if I read it correctly you say:
Yes, we did increase the prices for you 47%, that is the correct amount and there is nothing you can do about that apart from moving to another country or finding friends The States who can help buying the same tracks at the "2007"-price?

is that what you are saying?

I'm  screwed, because I pay a lot more for the same track (in dollars) than you would do

and, I'm not sure if the dollar goes up, I'm not an economic expert, but from what I hear see and read I would say that it's only a matter of time before the dollar really 'falls'

that sucks man.  on the plus side, if lots of people buy your remix from European IPs then it might not be so bad haha ;-)

an update, now I understand it better... I guess I was lucky the last few years

Response    01/30/2008 05:25 AM
Hallo Timo,
this is not what I am saying.
What I am saying is that nothing changed, if not the way your IP is read by the system.
The prices did not change.
England paid in pounds and Europe paid in Euros even last years.
This is done because we feel that the cost of life in England and in the States are very different.
A producer who is living and paying rent in England has different living costs than one living in the US.
This is why we feel that the tracks we sell should have a price that takes into account the cost of life in that market.
I hope you try to put yourself in our shoes when we try to choose a solution that satisfies everyone.

haha... the BS goes deep over there. I'd just write back something like "Oh... so... since the US dollar is tanking, they get a discount. I get it now. BTW, aren't you a US company?"

I understand where you are coming from, you would expect to have a standard price around the globe.  Is it just beatport or are there taxes involved?

I mostly disagree on the US $ analogy.  There is a crapload of hype going on right now surrounding the election year.  Its funny the US media has been trying to force a recession on this country for two years.  Our last qtr. was very little growth, but the last year was still 2 % ish.  If the US keeps borrowing money and spending money they don't have I'll agree with you, otherwise, the current bill that is trying to get passed will give the US a surplus within 4 years.

A surplus, yet... we'll still be in debt. I love how governments manage money. Smiley

But yeah... the recession talk is all crap and it's been going on since 2001 really. Currently, we're at 5% unemployment. The UK is still above that. What's the rate in Germany and France? Something like 7-8% if I remember correctly in both. Wal-Mart's parking lots are still full and ppl are still buying crap.

We're good right now. The banks are getting what they deserve for some bad business deals though.

yar... i was kinda annoyed when they switched it to different currencies a while back now...

I was getting 20 or so tracks for £10. Bargain. Now i have to be more selective about what i buy. But the thing is, i just can't stomach other download site UIs, beatports is just way cool. and easy.

And... that's WHY they can get away with it. The site is worth the extra cost.
