GTA IV is going to rule. The reviews I've read by the handful of people who've played it say it blows all the hype away, and that Bellic (your character) is one of those best protagonists ever.

Sure... a game that glorifies being bad is good. Seriously... I don't care that much about violence in games, but games that glorify you being the bad guy I have serious issues with.

i don't like the gta games.  but you could use that logic with any gangster related topic, especially movies, i love scarface but i don't live vicariously through it.

The difference between the two--at least in my opinion--is when you're viewing a film, such as 'Scarface,' you're a spectator; you're not actively involved with the acts being simulated, you are only bearing witness to them. Where with a video game, such as the GTA franchise, you play the part of the thief, the rapist, the murderer etc.

However I've never played GTA, nor have I ever watched it be played. So it's mostly conjecture on my part. Nevertheless it's still between the individual and God.

movies like scarface etc can develop a die-hard following where the viewer identifies in some way with the character, whether they make the decisions for that character or not, as it is with gta.   it happens with comic books and graphic novels too.  soap operas.

As you've pointed out, you've not played it, nor seen it played. The games do leave the choice up to you, as to how to accomplish the goals established. Many people (my wife included) think GTA is just about beating up prostitutes, but I don't recall any mission where you actually had to beat up a prostitute.

Sure... a game that glorifies being bad is good. Seriously... I don't care that much about violence in games, but games that glorify you being the bad guy I have serious issues with.

And I TOTALLY respect that.

i have a macbook pro with vista and leopard. It's got a Geforce 8600M GT, 2.2x 2 intel duo and 2 gb of ram. It's a fast little buddy. I have no problem doing multi tasking and rendering music super fast, I can play Crysis at Medium quality at 720p at a good frame rate. And its all packed in a sexy 1" shell.  Lips Sealed

720!?!?  LoL.

I feel dirty when I play games at less than 1920x1200... Which is better than 1080p.  Wink

x2 ftw!

Ok you guys have to understand that i have a laptop. A 1" laptop, and the fact that it can play Crysis at those settings and a good frame rate is an amazing accomplishment. If i had a Quad Core, dual EVGA Geforce 8800 gts desktop computer of course i could run it at 1920x1200 and not think to turn down the settings. But come on its a 1" laptop!  laugh

I'm talking about my laptop, actually...
