Mac is targeting a completely different group of people with this laptop…
we already know that mac has never put much into targeting gamers…

There is no computer company called "Mac".

The computer company is actually called "Apple".  I think you meant to say there is no computer company called "Windows".  That's an operating system that many computer companies install on their machines.

It's so light and thin you could easily through it away.

Quote from: Stephen Levy
On Sundays in my apartment, the coffee table where the Air sat becomes the final resting place for the bulky New York Times. It is not unusual for other magazines, and newspapers from previous days, to accumulate there as well.
[...]
My wife, whose clutter tolerance is well below my own, sometimes will swoop in and hastily gather the pulp in a huge stack, going directly to the trash-compactor room just down the hall from our apartment, dumping the pile into a plastic recycling bin. Sometimes the whole mess gets so nasty that I even perform this task myself. Could it be that somewhere in the stack was a Macintosh computer so thin that its manufacturer brags it could fit inside an envelope? I believe so. (For the record, my wife does not subscribe to this theory.)

As humiliating as it sounds, let me repeat: the MacBook Air is so thin that it got tossed out with the newspapers.

Vista is the Paris Hilton of operating systems - sexy and completely useless to society.

I agree with you 100% on Vista; 50% on Paris Hilton: she is currently useless to Society.

I smelled trouble when Apple announced the MBA, not because it is a bad product but because Apple was marketing it as a laptop, which is kind of a stretch.  Here is the stuff I blogged about it through Jan and Feb.

i wouldn't buy it, but i wouldn't be that concerned really about the lack of a cd drive.  most apple products can be bought and downloaded as a dmg, in fact, most software in general now can be bought and downloaded.  on my own laptop, the only thing i use the drive for is to burn cds, and if i'm taking it with me somewhere i'm not installing anything until i get home.   a computer like this might be useless now, but i think more computers will start coming out with a lot of fat trimmed.

thanks for the obvious, mac is easier to type than apple and i prefer to separate the one product of theirs i own from the rest.

They did the same when they got rid of 3 inch disk drives! And everyone was saying why they do that. I asked the apple store  about using one for music. They said if any thing a mac book would be better. The macbook airs more for internet etc.

Still holding out for a mac tablet!

yeah if your whole network of products is apple then for a traveling worker, the macbook air would be ideal in terms of size.  do your basic stuff on the road and then link back into your network when you get home

But still, if you don't have an Optical Drive, you should at least have more than one USB port.
