so yeah, title says it all. If you are one, have done it or can, post your experiences, setup, video freebie links, etc....
I just wanna use this as a go to information, since stuff like this is spread out through TF. If we get some good information on here, might consider this sticky.

http://www.vjforums.com/
I've been messing around with Arkaos VJ and Numark Cue. Arkaos is cool when its the only thing you do but I don't know if it just has a play video function. Cue, is closer to like Vicar said, the DVJ's. But I can't play videos that don't have music, which is something I want to do.
I would really (which will probably doing) is get pair of DVJ's. Since I saw this, I'm hooked:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrfSmWghkj4
I actually have good bit of video, just from my video producing as well.
So if ya got cool links to free videos, info or programs, post them.

Man we gotta sort something out! i think im in the same process as u!
Im back from my retreat by the way!
Did u say u had serato? im trying to see which way to turn too! I been using arkaos for 2 months now. And i loved it at first but found the setting up was taking too long.
I had some patches that i saved. But i dont want to spend hours setting up both arkaos and ableton. Ideally id like to work in a vjing djing partnership!.
Also i got my own clips etc i could share too!

Currently, I'm running Final Scratch, Ecler NUO4 and Stanton turntables.
Late November, I bought Traktor Scratch, but problem is my laptop is minimum requirements and I have to use a USB2.0 card to connect my Audio 8. Well, I've made it light as I can and I still get latency glitches while running Traktor.
So I've been looking and considering a new laptop and with recent interest in VJing and video, leads me to have to get either a Alienware or build my own. So last night, I put together a pc that will run whatever I want. So as weeks go by, I'll be buying parts here and there as i can afford them. Then build it. Except for Alienware having Intel chips and bigger L2 cache, this will run with them and be much cheaper.
So yeah, I'm learning for now and in transition. Not settled on any VJ program, mainly want to test them on the new machine once I build it.
Though the VJ forums I've been looking at, this program looks cool:

Ooh i do like that! Yes i tried it a bit!
The question i got is wether to go down the route of seperate tunes and seperate music. They are then arranged and performed to compliment each other or work together.
The DVJ approach pros are that u spend less time putting it all together. However not sure i want to be buying music videos! esp as 80% feature gal in the bikini!
The Alterntives to expensive DVJs are serato or cue! infact with cue u could use the new pioneer CDJ 400 and u would only need one!

MOST RECENT SET UP:
Powerbook G4, running arkaos. + BENQ projector.
Used this a gig i did at christmas 07.
However arkaos decided to crash half way through so had to restart which meant turning off the projector! Made me relise that i had made a mistake in selling my vision mixer.
A vision mixer would have allowed me to fade to another source whilst arkaos restarted and not made it obvious to the dance floor! Managed to get round it quick but dont want to do that again!

only beef with Cue is that it won't play video without audio, threw couple of my dance music videos in there and worked fine.
Arkaos is great for when you are the VJ, but does it allow me to push play on a video and let me play until I want to fade into something else?
right now, Resolume looks good to me.

You can crossfade on arkaos if your using a midi controller but it isn'y automatic resolume has a lot more controlls and autiomations built in which is useful if your spinning as well. I used the demo and decided it had to many bells and whistles for me but then I only did one gig with both sound and music and controlled via a midi keyboard I usually have the luxury of only doing one or the other!

Arkaos can play audio but would not have DJ features needed to beat mix

What BenQ do you have? I like the specs for the SP831 and am planing on buying one next month. Also planing on the V4 video mixer.

Ok DJ VICAR VJ GEAR UPDATE
I decided not to use arKaos and instead used..
AV mixer from neuromixer.com
Alesis Midi keyboard
External Harddrive (for video clips)
NEC mini projector
I decided not to use arkaos cause it froze on me and it was obvious! Had to turn off projector. So spent the last month looking at alternatives. and looked at
Modula 8
Motion Drive
Numark NUVJ (only supports numark controller)
I use to use neuromixer which is the free version of av mixer! Its not a bad set up for free and is very easy to use. But Av mixer gives higher output resolution and more control over effects.
I think ill be sticking with av mixer for now.
I have also decided not to VJ while im DJing. For now anyway!

Just a quick note re freeze on arkaos it is having problems with Quicktime 7.3 and 7.4 which is causeing it to fall over. If you go back to Quicktime 7.1 it works. It's a known issue and 7.3 was fixed in a beta release but then quicktime 7.4 came out and still crashed it!!!!! The price of progress!!!
