Cool I agree with Mr. Richards, I {no} longer own a cell phone, or an Ipod, because well honestly I never really was a big Ipod fanatic. I dont knock it either but there is way better products out there, for example the Sansa Sandisk is uber awesomness exgravaganess. You guys need to see this video, unfortanely I do not own one these puppys yet, but like I just said watch this video. You will want to buy one and throw away ur Ipod once ur done watching, lol.

Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNsTgGGi8g0

first of all it uses a standard laptop hdd which is HOT SWAPABLE.

Cool, you can change out the hard drive while it's on? Tongue

Seriously though, I still have one around that I use to record my sets, and it works fairly well for that, but generally, for a portable music player, it's rather bulky, and the user interface is really clunky compared to the iPod's; for, y'know, actually listening to music (and podcasts and audio books) when I ended up getting an iPod a little over a year ago it was a definite step up. I mean, seriously, who in their right mind would think it's a good idea to make it ask you if you want it to remember where it's at in a song or whatever when you're turning it off instead of doing so automatically? Braindead stuff like that.

Aside from the much better UI, though, the chief advantage for me was that I was able to take the system of smart playlists I had setup in iTunes on the go and have it keep last time played, rating, etc. updated on iTunes whenever synching it, not to mention the ability to update the smart playlists without hooking it back up to the computer. Soooooo much nicer. Smiley

here's a funny little story about hot swapable:
Quote
Dear Lazyweb,

Let's imagine for a second, hypothetically, that some drunk girl sees Blinkenlights on the RAID array in your garage and says (reportedly) "Oh neat, hot swap!", and proceeds to remove 3 drives from a particular 5-disk RAID-5 array, instantly killing the party music and a quite a bit of other data [accessibility].

Hypothetically, that would look like this: (after a reboot, incidentally)
Code:
# cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [linear] [raid0] [raid1] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4]
md1 : inactive sda[0] sde[4] sdd[3] sdc[2] sdb[1]
      2441932480 blocks super non-persistent

md0 : active raid1 sdf1[0] sdg1[1]
      97659008 blocks [2/2] [UU]

Using an ipod for me is like using a windows pc. It may not be the best choice but there are so many more options to use with it.

<--plans on buying a 4gb nano

my phone can do much more than your player just by going to the store and buying one.  most of the features you think are better cost extra money, attachments, and haven't received many great reviews in comparison to the iPhone (which is my portable media player).  it plays more audio and video formats and doesn't need an optional internet plugin (that you have to pay for) to use.  it has a longer battery life...and the list goes on.

iPhone PWNS Blackjack2 out of the box.  iPhone h4x0r3d PWNS every handheld device in the civilian market.

and those debating using the iPod with other music software.  it's made by Apple, use it with Apple music software.

Why?

it's a better device (do some research on tech specs and reviews) and as one individual pointed out.....it's not Windows Mobile.  (which regardless of device has a horrible track record of successfully syncing every time)

I must say, I've played with one of those beasts before, they are nice. Kinda big though to use as a personal media device though.

I have been though mini disc and I have a sansa clip.  The clip is nice and small and does the job.  But I like politcal pod cast.  So the i pod mini is for the podcasts. But I personaly think that the i pod vs sansa the sound qualty is much better with the i pod.

Yeah my friend loves his zune.  But you don't see a link and a free cable for a zune in most new cars.  It's all for i pod.  With the exception of sync for microsoft.
