Who Needs the Worship Band?

Who needs a worship band? Isn't a DJ capable of spinning the praise section of a church service with some worship CDs? i bet that the transitions would be much smoother as well (if you've got skills like Jarvis) You could build a pretty unique set.
So why not?

honestly...there are millions of christians who are not down with DJ-led worship. I don't mean they are against it (although their are many who are), but they don't like electronic music during/for worship. They simply want to hear a melodic guitar or a piano or whatever. Call em old skool, traditionalists or whatever that is what they want...just as their are still churches not at all down with modern worship music...ie. they still sing hymns and songs that are piano-led only. Some midwestern-US churches in the church of Christ following are not down with music and sing only acapella.

Like Doug said, just preference, some like electronic music and some don't, not a against/for way though. Plus, it gives musicians their freedom to express themselves to God in worship. Not only am I a DJ, I play bass guitar and certainly wouldn't want the band to disappear. I worship both ways.

yeah, i guess that it's good to keep the band. a lot of people play instruments and they wouldn't be able to if there wasn't any band.
electronic music i think has it's place, but i wasn't implying replacing the praise and worship sound with it. instead, just have a DJ play the songs that the band would play. lol, that's probably never going to happen though.
probably run the risk of looking like you are the one being worshiped on the stage though.

I'm going to build some bass lines and mix them with serato along with the band at church. I also have some cool samples off of some old 700 club records that I will throw in there as well as some scratchin'.

I agree with whats been said. I also think its still worth persuing in encourage people to worship through dj led worship. While not every one still accepts even band led worship it seems that its become more accepted and more part of church worship.
I also think we gotta explore more of how we worship through dj led stuff. More than just following the band style model. A Andy Hunter type style is one ways but there can be other approaches to Dj Led worship.

1) God is a creative and dj led worship is creative way to worship him. For many of us its a natural way to express worship. We should keep showing that even to those who dont get it. Cause i might says that i dont get someone elses way of worship. But ill try and understand.
2) Personally i never connected with worshiping God through band style worship mainly because i was never into the indie rock style of music. Not that there's anything wrong with it but im sure im not only one. Dj led worship can be a powerful way invite others to Worship. Especially Djs etc..
There was a time when having hymn books in church was frowned upon and when organs were seen as too new a technology to be used in church!

That would allmost look like "church on fire"
I hope scenes like that WOULD happen and EVERYBODY WOULD JUST WORSHIP GOD!

It COULD.But it could happen also to members to worship bands...
So it has NOTHING TO DO WITH MUSIC YOU PLAY!
And YOUR ATTITUDE plays MOST PART.
You could feel like worshipped even when your pastor...or worship leader...
OUR ATTITUDE COUNTS.

I've noticed these whatever you may call it...ppl usually don't like to ruin their traditions...and let the dj play worship...so attitudes are NOT EVEN NEARLY TO CHANGE...but we just to have to BLESS 'EM!

It's really all about personal preference. Me, I love to worship in the band setting. Others, like everyone at my church, like to worship to a slow moving pipe organ and 200 year old hymns. Others, as I have to come to learn just now, are into having a dj lead worship.
I think it's all about how you are comfortable in praising God.

I would probably restate what vicar wrote as "it's still worth pursuing exposing/introducing people to worship through DJ-led worship." I get annoyed when someone says their way of worship is "the" way--or even a better way--to worship. (Not that I'm saying that was what vicar was saying.)
I'm currently working on introducing the concept of DJ-led worship at my church (it's supposed to be on the agenda of next week's youth leaders meeting and a youth leader trip to Club Worship is tentatively scheduled for February). So, it's been on my mind a bit.
I need to be careful in trying to expose people to DJ-led worship that I don't claim that there's anything inherently special or extraordinary about it. It's just another equally valid means of bringing people to a place of focused worship of God.
For me personally, it's my preferred way. It's the way I lose myself in worship the easiest. Sunday-morning, band-led, sing-along worship doesn't work great for me. I get distracted by the people around me easily. At times, I find it even worse than singing hymns because, with hymns, you pretty much know you're gonna do verse 1, chorus (if there is one), verse 2, and so on, so if you know a hymn, you're pretty much set without having to look at a songbook or projected lyrics. With "contemporary" worship band stuff, you're never quite sure how the band might progress through the song as far as order and repetition. I find that I spend most of my time focusing on the projection screen, making sure I'm singing the right words.

Two people drift in a lifeboat. One says, "I see an island. Our best chance is to go ashore, build a shelter, and await rescue." The others says, "No, we must go farther out to sea and hope to find the shipping lanes." Unable to agree, the two fight, the lifeboat capsizes, and they drown.

Carry on rambling!
Yes like you said it is also important to be careful in exposing people to dj led worship.
I tried to do a session to a group of traditional ministers. i regretted it after but still not sure to this day wether i should have attempted it at all or if i should have used a different approach to how i introduced the whole thing.

I led worship on a youth sunday once and there where quite a few visitors that had showed up. They were like, " Is it like this every Sunday?" (They dug it) And a lot of them were gray hairs. It was pretty rad. I had the kids and people that I knew where uninhibited worshippers come to the front. And the Pastor was yelling and jumping around so that prolly helped too.
