Okay, so this is random and might not be in the right place. I'm in seminary right now. Each summer we do field education where we're an intern pastor at a church. I'm wondering if there are any churches out there I could look into who have any kind of dance music ministry as part of what they do. I'd really like to intern at a place that does stuff like that whole Kansas City thing because I think God wants me to launch something like that eventually when I get out of school here in North Carolina.

I make trance and hip-hop beats, rap, and sing. I used to teach high school so working with kids is what I love to do. So if anyone knows anybody I could talk to, that info would be so sweet. I really think this is my calling and I've been praying about this all semester so I'm feeling so incredibly blessed that I found this website tonight.

Peace, Morgan Guyton aka Mr. G

Yeah, it prolly should have been posted in Chillout (that's our random section). Maybe the mods will move it.

Also, welcome to Tastyfresh. I'm Chris. Been here for a very long time and was a moderator at one time, so I hope I can answer any questions you may have about TF sometime.

OK to your topic...

I'd start with calling churches in North Carolina. Find out where they stand on ministry to clubs and that whole scene. it will be a tough search, but I found that most every state has a few churches who are more liberal in their ministry outreaches. They know it's risky and that's why they want to do it. In the meantime I will be praying for God to open doors for you.

Our Kansas City thing was an answer to at least 3 years of prayer and frustration on my part and I don't know how long Aaron has been trying it. I've only been in Kansas since 2004, he's been here his whole life. Even now, it still hasn't "happened". We are in the baby steps of trying to get something going. We are thankful we at least have a venue who wants to try it that isn't church.

Church club events NEVER work out because they are at a church and people have a weird thing about dance music and church. They just  don't show up. I only mention that because I saw in another thread you wanted to do some club ministry at a church, if I read it right. Don't do it. You will waste your time and everybody else who pitched in to make it happen. You will have an amazing sound system and lights with an empty room. I've seen it happen every time in my over 14 years of experience. You need to find a different venue. Period. Also, if you can get around it, do not put a church name anywhere on the flyer. It goes back to my previous statement. Find a venue, plan the event, come up with a cool name (please do not call it Crave [for "Christian Rave"]...been done way too many times), make up flyers...if you don't know anything about flyer design ask someone here to do it for you...there are some of us here who will help you out if needed, and then pray that God will bring the masses.

I hope my advice was helpful. I've done this a bunch of times and I know what doesn't work. As far as what DOES work...that is really up to God. It's different everytime.

Thanks so much for the advice. I figured I was making a lot of naive assumptions. I'm coming from a place of having been burned in the local secular indie rock scene and not wanting to have anything to do with secular industry. I still wonder though if there's a way to create something out of youth lock-ins. In the United Methodist Church, there are these big youth gatherings called Pilgrimage that happen in each state once a year. Being at seminary, a ton of UMC youth ministers in the area are actually my classmates. Anyway, bottom line is I don't know what in the world I'm doing so hopefully I can link up with an internship type situation so I can learn what to do. Peace of Christ, Mr. G

I really agree with what  404 says about a club in a church building. I know there are examples of it working but..

What about doing an internship here in the uk? with some people who are trying to do church in a club? So rather than trying to re create a club/ worship environment in a church building. The idea is to rather to encourage church in club culture?

There a few of examples of this starting to happen. but it will look and feel rather different to what u might expect.

That sounds very interesting Vic.  Can you give me any links with more info on that?

Check http://tasteandseethelight.org.uk

Thats the organisation i am involved with and who do monthly club nights in birmingham. We simply pray before hand and meet at other times to pray including "Revive" a monthly event meeting in a house where we seek to worship God through the decks and encourage each other in being Disciples of Jesus in Dance/club culture.

On the whole i would say this kind of approach is difficult to pin down and probably not appropriate to post other people emails etc on here. Apart from the upperoom who have posted here on tasty look under events posts. There is also a yearly gathering in london for people who take different approaches to sharing their faith in Jesus in club/dj culture. Including a group who pray and go clubbing together.

Also probably worth getting in touch with Alex Wilson (tasty member)  who wants to get some stuff going in brighton uk.

Hope this give some info!
