Another option is to check it out from the public library and watch it for free.

Not buying, RENTING!
I know you're being sarcastic, but seriously... it's almost the same thing. If people wouldn't rent, they wouldn't buy.
If you get it from a Library, the government can and will track you. I'm sure it'll be flagged by the Patriot Act

I finished the Golden Compass.
I am going to try and write my review of it this weekend. I'm going to put it on my blog and I'll post a link here.
I'll just say this...for a fanasty novel it was weak.

Actually, if you do watch it... period, you should pay the man what he is owed. Period. That's the Biblical thing to do. That's my point.

OH yeah... and I forgot infringement.
The government isn't trying to do anything
to control that and
NOBODY has EVER got to jail
for that.

You are providing a market for that rented material. If you and several hundred other people are willing to pay $5 to rent a movie, you just justified Blockbuster's purchase of 20 copies. Granted, that's less than selling 100 or more dvds, but it's still a fraction of the money going to the guy you don't want to support.

You're basically talking supply & demand, makes sense.
I've worked at a video store chain before though, and they bought copies of all major releases, whether people actually ended up renting them or not. The obscure stuff, or the really HUGE releases were the ones affected by people's renting habits.
The Blockbuster on the West side has an impressive Anime section, and the one in East Lansing close to Michigan State University has an ok one too. Anime does really well at these two stores, so they stock more. Other Blockbusters in town have a very small section of anime, because they don't see the same demand.
When something HUGE like Shrek 3 releases, they will buy a wall of copies instead of just the usual 3 or 4, because people are going to be all over it like they were the other two Shrek movies.
In those two situations the buyer/renter is definitely influencing what they buy, and how many copies.
On the other hand, have you ever seen those silly knock offs on the shelves, like snakes on a boat or something? It's obvious that it's just a knock off of Snakes on a Plane! Why on earth would they stock something like that if it's not going to rent?
Sometimes it's because it's carried by the same distributor who cuts them a deal on something else they want. They'll cover their losses by the other things that do rent and make up the difference.
So you may be right, but I don't think it's as clear cut as you think!

I just look at it as a waste of time. What I ment to say was one of the char. is pan. The flute god. I just don't get the big deal with going to movies that are ment to take down the kingdom. But at the same time you have a choice. I'm not going to judge anyone because you go see this movie. I have seen alot worse in my time. So will leave it at that.

I wasn't aware he was in it. I get you though, why waste time on something that's against God?
I see movies often, and people regularly ask me about movies coming out.
I'd like to be able to intelligently discuss it with them instead of being one of those Christians who bashes something they've never read or watched, and in the process get enough details wrong they look like an idiot.
I don't do that with all movies, sure I don't need to watch porn to tell someone what's wrong with it
I also don't watch slasher flicks, and other kinds of movies that either disgust me or would be bad for me.
This is a little different though, it was explained it pretty well in the article that JTX posted:
Quote from: Al Mohler
At the same time, nothing would serve his agenda better than to have Christians speaking recklessly or unintelligently about the film or the books.
This is about the battle of ideas and worldviews. While Christians will not celebrate the release of this film, we should recognize the mixture of challenge and opportunity that comes with millions of persons watching this film and talking about the issues it raises. When the movie is mentioned in the workplace, in school, on the playground, or in the college campus, this is a great opportunity to show that Christians are not afraid of the battle of ideas.
We are responsible to show them, in so far as we are able, that the Magisterium of The Golden Compass is not a fair or accurate representation of the Christian Church.
Philip Pullman has an agenda, but so do we. Our agenda is the Gospel of Christ -- a message infinitely more powerful than that of The Golden Compass.

I edited my post quite a bit...
Anyway you're not absolutely wrong, you make a fair point, but I just think it's not so cut and dry.

Yeah I know what your saying. Not everone has to be able to explain movies. We all have the ablites to share the Gosple in relation to our experiences in life. Usualy because we can relate to that person in some way shape or form. I personly dont mind not knowing what is going on with hollywood. But when it comes down to it, it's between you and God. I would rather not have a clue about hollywood. But when it comes down to it it's your chosing. Funny how a site about dance music and the biggest threads have nothing to do with dance music?
