I heard a great sermon from Mars Hill about the importance of stories teaching you your morals... and why Jesus always spoke in parables and stories, cause they don't need explaining.

the don miller one from a few weeks ago?  don miller has also written some great books   Cool

also, i'm pretty sure i liked all of what you said.

i'm avoiding the movie not just because i've read it's anti-Christian, but because it stars nicole kidman who is a pervert that insisted on doing a sensualized bath scene with a ten-year old.

You mean in the Golden Compass? If not I must have missed that movie.

Yeah I'm not going to go see it. I don't see the need to stick the boot into Christianity. Not like this.

we do have multiple moderators and dave can post a list of them or you can go under members and find them that way.

i know of brandon and cindy and i think there are others

I wish not to seem rude but when is the last time any of them have actually moderated a thread? And what I was referring to was when we had elected Moderators that were accountable to there fellow Tf'ers.

both cindy and brandon are all over the site and moderating.  Cindy has like the 10th highest amount of time spent on the site.  Brandon is not into posting as much as many people but he is all over it too.

i didnt take your post as rude.

by the way the rabbit hole of tastyfresh.com goes only as far as you see it.  I live in Atlanta and have been over to Dave's house on numerous occasions.  If only you knew how many forums and subboards exist on this site that are not accessable to everyone to keep this place running. Lips Sealed

john turpin, the discogs man is also a moderator

lol. See... that just makes me laugh, but let's not go there. But I enjoyed Hitman too... not as much as Shoot Em Up, but it was decent. Timothy Olyphant perfectly captured 47.

it stars nicole kidman who is a pervert that insisted on doing a sensualized bath scene with a ten-year old.
That sounds gross. The scene from the book is certainly not sensual or sexual, there's nothing particularly sensual in TGC / Nothern Lights, at all. But I think sensual and sexual can be a matter of interpretation, within limits. I didn't like the nudity in Hitman, but the sexuality didn't bother me in Shoot Em Up (which I'm surprised at).

Yeah, that's the one. Great topic. I'm consistently impressed with the teaching from Mars Hill.

Ellipse, Polaris, good for you guys! I'm not trying to convert anyone, just interested to find out if anyone else enjoyed.

I also have the hardest time finding exactly where these "rules" are. When I first joined this forum, a link to the rules [of that era] could be found conveniently at the top of every page. Now I can't seem to find them except as one piece at a time for when they are explicitly enforced.

How do you see it as "sticking the boot into Christianity"?  If they are "sticking the boot into Christianity", why does it matter to you?

Later in the series perhaps this theme is revealed, but I honestly didn't see this in the movie.

the one thing i love about TF is that satan himslef could write a book called "Jesus is Bad". The cover of the book could have a picture of Jesus commiting some horrible sin. Hollywood then makes it into a movie and someone here would post ..."hey should we go see Jesus is Bad?"... most would say HECK NO!

...but there's some TFrs who would say...well now...lets wait...lets really try to understand what the devil was feeling when he wrote the book...lets give him some creative wiggle room... hurt lets not judge a book by its cover!  Cheesy

Please, Dave was right to lock this first thread.

Sounds like an interesting book, rody.  Though you're analogy went to the unnecessary extreme, i think you bring up something that would be worth discussing.  Can there be truth and beauty anywhere, even in secular sects?  Even in "The Golden Compass"?  I think you know my opinion, but what's everybody else's?

Secondly, I don't think this thread should be locked, because i think there's much to be gained from honest/open discussions about real world things.  i think Davey R. would agree with me on that.

Thirdly, still no one has explained to me how the movie is against Christianity, or speaks against it.  Being that most of you have never read the book or seen the movie, I guess this makes sense.

Cheers for a thus far open-minded discussion guys  hug
