Since this topic started about The Golden Compass, I like what Al Mohler had to say about it, and my own pastor saw it a few days ago and had his thoughts about it.

Your pastor's post was great. That's pretty much what each review of the movie I've read, has said. I'd still like to see the movie... but yeah, his perspectives are good. I wonder what he'll think of the books.

As to the other article, it should be stickied at the top of this thread. Excellent writing.

Why would you go to see a movie that centers around a Pan?

A pan?

What do you mean?

And I haven't seen the movie yet, as I don't want someone who is actively working against God to get my money.

I wouldn't mind seeing it at some point though, maybe when it comes to video.

I do struggle with this as well. Clearly... the only route is illegal downloading!

Cool! Interested to know what you think (bearing in mind they say the 2nd and 3rd books are the noise-makers).

Amen! (I kid) Smiley

Although, if I understand it correctly, "illegal downloading" is an incorrect term as that the offense is the illegal distribution (ie. uploading) of "intellectual property."

laugh  Honestly...I had considered that, but have not done it yet.

I figure if I just rent it when it hits video, the video store will get my money, and not Phillip Pullman.

It is tempting to watch it at some of the places that stream it online though  Embarrassed

I could argue that by renting it, you are encouraging the video store to purchase more movies like it and in a way, you are still helping to support something financially that you don't want to even if you are limiting the money you spend on it.

Honestly, just pay the $10 and see the flick in the theater. See it in the environment it was meant to be seen in. If I see it, it will be in the theater. There I said it. I'm not ashamed to be caught dead giving this "fool" some money. I've already done worse in my life.

You're right Dave, I should forget the video store thing and just watch it online.

After all, I've done worse in my life too.

Actually, if you do watch it... period, you should pay the man what he is owed. Period. That's the Biblical thing to do. That's my point.

Simmer down Dave, I was just being sarcastic.

Having a bit of fun with your "after all I've done worse" comment.

I'm still planning on renting it from a Video Store when it releases, that way he doesn't get jack from me.

I don't have to pay him, the video store will, but I'm still legal, and Biblical.

(Unless you consider video stores to be anti-biblical)

As far as that encouraging them to buy more of that kind of thing, it doesn't.

They're already going to be ordering multiple copies regardless of what I do or don't do.

I know the guy who does the ordering, and they're going to carry multiple copies of anything that is a major release.

I also don't consider it the kind of movie that HAS to be seen in the theatre to get the full effect, like Transformers or Star Wars.

Sounds like someone doesn't realize their buying power.
