OK... I'll ask again:
what have you specifically been enlightened about? What new revelation have you had from these discussions? What growth have you personally experienced as a result of these discussions? How have they changed your walk with God? I'm being VERY serious right now.
Just because you handle a conversation maturely (for once in 5 years) does not meant that this is the right place for it. Also, it does not follow that we're brushing it under the rug if we don't talk about it either.
We have been able to do a LOT together without getting into all the fine print of our beliefs. Just look at the theological diversity in Cstone this past year. We had ultra-conservatives working with emergents and more all working together. When something needed to be done, it was just a matter of assigning a task.
We don't NEED these discussions on TF to work well together. These discussions NEED to happen in the real world - face to face where you can read body language and have a real time conversation. That's the biggest drawback to doing it online.

Dave,
Ask yourself the same questions about any thread on Tastyfresh.
I found the thread enlightening, and don't need to write an essay to validate that for you.
I feel like you're trying to force an argument so you can lock the thread.

Carey,
1) you know I don't need an argument to lock the thread.
2) what we are discussing (once again) is should we allow spiritual debates on this site. That's what all of this is about.
As far as justifying it, yes... this time you need to compared to the others because we are talking about the type of discussion that has been banned on this site for almost 5 years now.

No, but you would definitely look bad if you locked it.
If you force an argument though, you can say, "see it always happens sooner or later..."

More than anything the beating a dead horse is really unnecessary.
To me that is the biggest quark of this website...it seems we just don't know how to let go.
Whether you like it or not, the decision was made that spiritual debates were not for this site.
We re-look at it ever so often and have yet to find it worth bring back because it doesn't benefit the body as a whole.
Can we move on?

Back to the original discussion:
For those still interested in The Golden Compass, I thought the two links JTX provided were EXCELLENT, especially the one by Albert Mohler.

Since this topic started about
The Golden Compass
, I like what
Al Mohler had to say about it
, and my own pastor saw it a few days ago and had
his thoughts about it
.

I'm listening to the audio currently. Once I am finished I'll let you all know what I think.
