Well that looks kinda cool.  8)  However we could have done with out the song in there, it's IronMan by BlackSabath.  It's a pretty dark song, catchy but dark.  :D  Oh, it might be a deal breaker, I'm not sure yet.

I completely agree.  They should have used "War Pigs" instead.

I'm not a huge Iron Man fan, but I gotta say, this looks pretty sweet!

I'm not a Sabbath fan, but "Iron Man" is a classic tune, and I'm glad they used it for the trailer.  I was just thinking about this movie a month or two ago, and I thought it'd be pretty cool if they used that song.

I was pretty suprised and happy to see they did!

Just because the song is in the teaser trailer doesn't mean it'll be anywhere in the movie though.  It's pretty common for songs to be used in trailers and then never show up in the movie, on the soundtrack, or even be mentioned as having any connection to the film!

Jon Favreau is doing a great job with this so far, it has exactly the right feel to be true to the comics and still have a mass appeal!

Oh, yes, Ironman is a good wholesome song for the whole family let's sing some of the lyrics together right now! "....he rises from the grave, killing those he once saved..."  ::)

I didn't say it was a wholesome song, I said it was perfect for the trailer.

Don't get confused!

So what's Iron Man's story?  From the above posts it sounds like he was forced to create a weapon and then he became that weapon?

yeah, the song isn't good, but it fits the movie.

Tony Stark was brilliant. A Billionaire Weapons Designer and Dealer, but also a party boy and an alcoholic.

In the movie it looks like he is giving the US Army a demonstration of some weapons, and then they are transporting him somewhere.  Some terrorists attack the army convoy he's in, and kidnap him for their Warlord who wants him to build weapons for them.

Unfortunately he's seriously injured in the fight when they grab him, and a piece of shrapnel is lodged in his heart.

He builds some sort of device in his chest that keeps him alive, some sort of advanced pacemaker kinda thing.

He and another captive are supposed to build weapons for the Warlord, but instead they work together to build a suit of powered armor to escape with.

He "opens up a can" on the terrorists and the warlord, busting to freedom as Iron Man.

This ends up being kind of a life changing experience for him and he struggles to be a better person, while still having problems with alcohol and stuff.

He makes other Iron Man suits and becomes the Hero known as Iron Man!

Jon Favreau is doing a great job with this so far, it has exactly the right feel to be true to the comics and still have a mass appeal!

To be true to the current comics he'd have to be a totalitarian responsible for the death of his best friend and an American hero. :P

But yes, Favreau is appears to be doing a splendid job. I remember hearing suggestions that he play "Happy" Hogan.
Also, Samuel L. Jackson will be playing Nick Fury in a cameo. The big rumor is that he'll be trying to recruit Iron Man for The Avengers in anticipation for the planned film of the same name and that a virtual identical scene is being filmed for the same-year-release of The Incredible Hulk. :)

And here I go again re-resurrecting it. :)

New Trailer! (http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/ironman/trailer2/)

HD version (http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/ironman/hd/)

So Iron Monger will be the villain that Iron Man fights directly but The Mandarin's presence will be behind the scenes (http://www.comicsinfilm.com/2007/07/31/jon-favreau-on-iron-man-villains/). After viewing this trailer I'm inclined to believe that the man who captures Tony is actually The Mandarin and that he hires Obadiah Stane to build the Iron Monger suit.

Why not digital? For serial!

Confession: I saw Ep 2 in every format they released it on in the theater. Imax was the WORST. They cut out 20 minutes and did a pan and scan of it.

On the other hand... the picture quality was INFINITELY better than the matrix reloaded on imax which was extremely graining and keylined. IE. Over sharpened.

It's listed as being released in IMAx, but the Imax theatre here is not showing it, so THX is the best I could do!

Yeah, that Star Wars was back when IMAX could only do 2 hour movies, so they had to edit it down.

Now they can do longer, but you're right, Matrix wasn't too good in IMAX.

Batman Begins was very good in IMAX though!

Yeah, that Star Wars was back when IMAX could only do 2 hour movies, so they had to edit it down.

But, the star wars deal with Imax was amazing for one thing. That was the first film ever shot in all digital. All of the critics of digital cinematography said that you couldn't blow the image up that much and still retain the image quality. Lucas did this edit solely to prove them wrong and he did. The image was perhaps one of the cleanest I had every seen that large.

The all digital release was just as important as it fully completed the entire digital only aspect of the film. Beyond that, it did give Lucas more time to add in a few things he hadn't had the time to do prior to the main release of the flick such as add in some sparks and other visual flares. Nothing major, but it was a few finishing touches that added to it even if the majority of people didn't notice.

Ok, he did mention him being stubbly too, an unshaven, white fury.

I don't think it's a racial thing so much.  He would also be upset with a blue Hulk, not because he's racist against blue people, but because traditionally the Hulk is green.

In the same way he would be upset if the Black Panther was white, not because he has a problem with caucasians,  but because the Panther is traditionally an African.

Oh, that's the first thing you say about almost every movie you see. ;)

I haven't said that about any movie before.

I certainly didn't say that about 10'000 BC

It's as if Ultimate Nick Fury was designed after Samuel L. Jackson and then Samuel L. Jackson goes on to play him.

That's pretty much exactly what happened.

An earlier version of Fury in the Ultimate X-Men looked a little different, but when the actual Ultimates title launched he was just like this, and in one of the early issues the team jokes about who would play them if they made a movie, and Fury says "Samuel L. Jackson"

10 out of 10!  this competes in my book with batman begins... very close... i think batman is still #1 though...

I think you're right on the money  ;)

Batman is still #1, but this is very, very close!!!

10 outta 10!

The only complaint I have about the entire movie, is that Terrance Howard was not a good Rhodey.  He was too much of a Wuss!

Considering most people don't even know who Rhodey is, not a big deal, and still a 10  :)

Yes, I knew of this. My previous post was a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor. :)

True, not enough high quality liquor. The "high quality" ladies were a kick, though.

I like Plugged in's review:

http://www.pluggedinonline.com/movies/movies/a0004046.cfm

Quote
...Stark's path to becoming Iron Man is, in many ways, as spiritual as you can get without reciting Bible verses. He is an archetypical woeful sinner who wasted much of his life on wine, women and weapons. While he doesn't find God, specifically, he does find what he considers a purpose when he has what one might call the Marvel Comics equivalent of the Apostle Paul's Damascas Road experience. No longer is he blind to what's going on around him. No longer is his life aimless. He has a reason to live. A calling...

Plugged-in is, at least in my opinion, the best/fairest Christocentric, entertainment review site there is.

Good review.

Agreed.

Was it you who posted about it on the boards previously?

If so, thank you, that's how I found it, and I like it.
