I don't mind going to a crowded theater, but not when its stocked with the 6-13 year old crowd.

I'll see it in, I don't know, a month.

HAVE FUN!! other than a few exceptions im not much of a comic book/movie guy. as Ikronix stated, teenie bop filled theatres are the absolute worst. they should have a 30 & over theatre for prudes like me. i hate hearing people during a movie.
you better give us a review after you see it.

My wife's at a mother/daughter retreat this weekend, so it's not an option. She had no interest in Spidey until she watched the first movie after I bought it on DVD. She got hooked instantly.

I was waiting on Carey to start this thread since Sunday I realized it was coming out this week.  I want to see it this weekend, hopefully Friday afternoon, bargain time and kids barely getting out of school, so theres no time for them to get there.

Dunamis, you could have started it, no need to wait for me.

I was surprised there wasn't one going, but thanks for letting me have the honors :)

You'll get to see it before everyone so far, unless someone here is hitting a Midnight show.  Let us know how it is!

Suzi, that sounds like a pretty good combo!  I generally prefer Matinees as they are cheaper, but the kid in me can't wait to see Spidey!

Sir-ricks-a-lot, I'm down with that.  I'll see it a few times myself!

One word:

Disappointment.

well I didn't get to go today, errands and supposedly some friends were coming over, didn't.

please don't tell me it was a bigger disappointment than 2 was, course I liked 2 also but some didn't.  A friend of mine done went off and told me one thing about it and said it was worth it.

It ROCKED(http://www.conquestministries.com/dancechapel/ROCKS.gif)

I  LOVED it! :smiley27:

It teaches the power of forgiveness, and does an amazing job showing how revenge is wrong.

Great action, special effects, and drama, awesome stuff!

It has a great message, yes, and wonderful special effects, but that's par for the course. Unfortunately it's the delivery that disappointed me. It was a lot of great setup and buildup to an ending that was rushed and lost its impact if you ask me. Sure, --I-- understood it well, because I'm a Christian and think about it on a daily basis. Everyone else? Not so sure they'll really get it because it wasn't delivered well.

Just my opinion.

i felt like it was ok...not horrible, good but not spectacular. the ending felt kind of like a let down for me...i kind of wanted to be set up for another spidey movie and i don't feel like they did that. also, it just felt like the timing of the ending was a little off, they needed something more exciting to end the flick. just my .02.

Okay. Well, first off they needed to lose the cheese when he was under the venom influence. That was funny and all, but it was wasted filmtime they could have used to make the final battle a bit longer, which is why it was anticlimactic to me. You get to the 'big ending' and it's over in like, two or three minutes and you're like, HUH? What?

Now, as far as the perfect ending? Simple. The camera goes into the bar where Mary Jane is singing. It zooms in and you see Aunt May's ring on her finger. Then Peter walks in and sits down IN THE FRONT ROW, like he did at her musical, and just sits there watching her sing with a satisfied smile on his face. BAM. PERFECT ENDING.

My wife and I loved it. No complaints at all. Seriously. Yeah... it was a bit campy at times, but I thought it was a nice twist. Stan Lee's appearance though... that stole the show for me for some reason. It was a great "middle" film. The campy stuff was just as good as what was in Star Trek 4. ;) The only thing is... Matt, you are right, that forgiveness theme is above some ppl's heads. We heard several ppl say they didn't understand why so and so well... got to go free.

Oh... and your ending would have been PERFECT... if they weren't going to drag that issue out to Spidey 4 ;)

See, my wife and I were under the impression that this was the last spiderman.

If it is, then I think they tried to do too much. But if not, hmmmmmmm.

Still, given basic story mechanics, it would have been the perfect symbolism to a happy ending.

And don't get me wrong, I thought the cheese was hilarious. I just felt that, if they had lost it, they could have invested more time in the ending.

Yeah I saw also with a bunch of my friends last night.  I thought it did have a good message that one man can make a difference....and you can choose to do the right thing.  Yeah the action and special effects and all were cool and so yeah it was a winner in my book.  8)  And plus I hear it broke box office records for best opening weekend! Go spidy!

Rumor has it that the cast is signed on for a total of 7 films.

And don't get me wrong, I thought the cheese was hilarious. I just felt that, if they had lost it, they could have invested more time in the ending.

The ending was long enough. I don't know why ppl think that fight should be longer. All the good-byes too... it was at risk already of feeling like the end of Return of the King where 40 min of the movie was nothing but good-byes :P

Now, if they wanted to remind ppl that part of venom was still back at the U's lab or show what they did with the withering part that was still burning at the construction site... that would have been fine.

They still left a LOT open for another film.

BTW, did you see the poster in the newspaper office that said Doc Oct was still alive? ;)

Yeah... it was a bit campy at times, but I thought it was a nice twist.

Nah, I didn't think it was too campy at all.  The other two films had their campy moments, too.  I cracked up at "Emo" Spidey.  That was hilarious.

If you recall, Spiderman 2 had the really campy part with "Raindrops falling on my head."   :P

Oh, and from what I've heard, this is the last Spiderman movie for Tobey McGuire or Kirsten Dunst.   :(

That sux.  I couldn't imagine anyone else playing them, and having the continuity work at all.

I'm with Nyx. We heard that Tobey and Dunst are done. It's never good to replace your main roles. They'll have to pull something really good out of the box if they're gonna replace those two. ;)

Title: Re: Spiderman 3 Opens this Friday!
Post by: SuziStar on May 09, 2007, 08:53:45 AM
The only way I could see them replacing those two is if the storyline is later in life and the characters need to be a bit older. Didn't that scientist guy keep part of the venom "material"? Maybe that is a way they could bring back the character in the next flick. From what I read, Venom is suppose to help Spidey beat Carnage, so a resurrection of sorts should be in order.

Well... George Lucas didn't like Spidey.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,270874,00.html

Quote
Lucas told me he has seen all the summer movies since his company, Industrial Light and Magic, does most of the special effects. The only one they didn't work on was "Spider-Man 3." What did he think of it?

"It's silly. It's a silly movie," he said. "There just isn't much there. Once you take it all apart, there's not much story, is there?"

Well, it's not "Star Wars."

"People thought 'Star Wars' was silly, too," he added, with a wink. "But it wasn't."

Ok... so... there's nothing to a story about forgiveness and the dangers of revenge and hatred. Ok... No wonder he's not a Christian. But still as a Buddhist, I would have expected that he'd get it. Hmmmm...

the ending made it for me. the forgiveness theme can only really be appriciated by people who have had to really live out forgiveness for someone who has done something that really hurt them. i have to walk in a fraction of that and know how hard that is. the symbolism of scene with spidy in the clocktower and the scene before it (the jaz club) is REALLY amazing.

HAHA yeah...emo spidey made me laugh too nyx

I was happy that um....the whole....friend thing patched up but i was sad when um. ya know. that scene in the building that had the side ripped off...sigh.....

i heard that tobey and kirsten hate each other in real life.

I understand that some people don't like it for the reasons they mentioned, and there are a number of people out there who feel the same, so I can't argue, you guys have a point.

Personally I loved it though!

I don't think the revenge and forgiveness themes were over people's heads though, I think they were explained pretty thouroughly in the film!

ok, so I finally after seven months get to see Spiderman over the holidays.

*Spoilers, if you still haven't seen it*

on with the review.....

 - showing Sandman as real killer, kinda shows shotty police work imo, but permissible for the movie.

 - I remember him fighting more villians as black spidey.

 - Emo imagine was taken too far.

 - Matt's ending would of only worked if previous statement was done, esp in bar scene.

 - They had it where he could put on the back suit, when reality he couldn't since it was a symbiont.

 - shouldn't of killed harry.

 - liked the whole forgiveness, revenge theme ya'll mentioned.

 - yeah, if there is a piece of the symbiont in the lab, possibly Venom or Carnage can come into the picture.

Doc Oct Alive?  Also they need to keep Toby, Kristen can be replaced or kept.

other than that, I liked the film.

Glad you liked it!  It asn't as good as Spidey 2, but it was still a good time with some neat things  :)

Quote from: djdunamis

Yeah he had the black costume for a lot longer in the comics, in fact he had it for months at least during Secret Wars before he returned to earth, and then for awhile after that before he found out it was a living alien symbiote.  Obviously they couldn't do all that in one several hour movie though.

Quote from: djdunamis
Emo imagine was taken too far.

Yeah, it was by far the worst part of the movie, and the #1 complaint.  Thanks hollywood.

 >:(  >:(  >:(  >:(  >:(  :hurt:  :smiley18:  :police:

Quote from: djdunamis
- They had it where he could put on the back suit, when reality he couldn't since it was a symbiont.

I think what you mean is in the comics he didn't take the suit off and then put it back on a lot, like his normal one.  It stayed on him quite a bit of the time, and could change it's appearance to look like normal street clothes and such, so he didn't have a need to take it off.  He was able to take it off when he wanted to though, and would take it off at night when he slept, only to have it creep it's way back.

When he finally went to Reed Richards (Fantastic Four) to find out more about the costume's strange abilities, he found out it was an alien symbiote and they were able to remove it.  They discovered it had not permanently bonded with him yet, so that's why he was able to still take it on and off at will.

Of course when it knew he knew what it was, it didn't want to let him take it off, but he got it off with some help from Reed.

They underestimated it though, and it escaped back to his apartment to disguise itself as one of his spare red and blue suits, and he unwittingly put it on again.  When he realized the alien was attached to him again, he went to the church to use the bells to get it off.

I think thats where they came up with the idea to have him be able to take it on and off again in the movie, and it was possible in the comics too, so they were sort of right, it just wasn't portrayed in quite the same way.

Again I think it's because they only had so much time in several hour movie, so they tried to keep the concept simple for people.

That WAS a bummer  :'(

well as far as any spiderman history, mine is known from the big cartoon series during mid 90s.  I never really got to read the comics, even I collected some holographic ones.  Which I think they did it close to comics from what I've seen.  Anyway, in the cartoon series where he bonds with the symbiont, he gets it from the shuttle while saving Mr. Jameson's son.  Once bonded, he could just change his appearance and not take it off.  So that's where i got confused.

I don't think he could just pop the question and move on, not after the humiliation he did to her in the bar scene.  If it was done different, then that ending could work.
