New Ruhnsong Release:
+
Ruhnsong Remix (Micah & Joel colab) version is the track that Markus Schulz put on his last compilation.
+
Joel Armstrong Remix is more techy, housey, glitchy, party tune getting some good support.
+
Original Mix is a nice melodic sort of tune, great for winding down.
+
Enjoy, thanks for all the support TastyFreshers!

Pure quality as usual guys... all 3 versions are already in the bag. Joel, your mix is seriously funky man, twisting the groove out of the glitch!  8)

its very interesting that you don't follow trance.  I consider this track to be very very very close to progressive trance.  I know it is still progressive house, but the fact that Mr. schulz put it on his cd says alot.  The lines of house/trance are very blurred indeed.

The lines of house/trance are very blurred indeed.

Very true, alot of people still think trance is stuck in 1999... this quote from a recent review on Resident Advisor is a typically spouted generalisation.....

"Trance is the disco of the ‘90s, as popular at its height as it’s been maligned in its wake. It’s a genre that has never been taken seriously by highbrow critics (what, like RA?)– and mostly with good reason (erm, what reason? snobbery?) But it’s a shame too, in a way. As M. Mayer said in a recent interview: “The word ‘trance’ itself doesn’t mean anything bad – au contraire – it’s exactly the state everyone wants to reach while dancing. But since ‘trance’ is occupied by this retarded arpeggio/snare roll/glow stick culture, nobody wants to use that term in a credible way anymore.”

That snare roll/arpeggio element is still there to a certain extent but it certainly does not define the genre for me. A good example is Amsterdam by Luminary... no arpeggios or snare rolls there, so what is it? Progressive house? Oh yeah, I forgot that Progressive House died too... its electro house or minimal techno now isn't it???.....   ???

Btw, this was not intended as a slight on Joel for saying what he said. I just felt that Doug's observation reminded me of the review I read last week. Mayer's comments in that quote also highlight the bankruptcy of our musical pigeonholing. Often these terms for certain styles have their usefullness for a season but eventually the music changes and the tag no longer fits. But equally these terms can resurface again and become re-appropriated as that review was hinting at with the advent of what has been labelled 'nu trance'. I can remember similar controversy when Jungle started to mutate into Drum n Bass in the UK around 1996. The two terms had been interchangeable for a while but then Jungle became associated in alot of people's minds with the Ragga influence but I always kind of felt it a useful descriptor but the term got ditched. But in the current fervour for all things retro it does seem to have had a resurgence of interest in that scene and the media generally. Really, as with people it is best not to take labels and stereotypes too seriously. It is better to keep an open mind and look for inherent qualities in the individual (person or track) rather than make arm's length generalisations. You will often be pleasantly suprised...

** also, please be aware that when the tracks were first released on beatport for glimmer, all the mixes were mislabeled.   i know that the original mix is more trancey, and the colab remix of Micah and mine is a little more edgy and a bit on the trance tip as well, but my remix is deffo not trance.

my goal was to balance out the release a bit and attract dj's like Ozgur Can, Dumb Dan, Stian Klo, people in that wing.   i think it worked, it can be dangerous trying for too broad of an audience..

Well... you can't change your style once you've "made it" you know. All creativity has to be sucked out of you by then as well as independent thought ;)

lol.  well, interestingly enough.  while i agree with your last statement somewhat.  i just finished two remixes for a trance label out of New York that wanted me to do whatever i wanted for a remix and they actually paid me straight up to do them too.  it was wonderful.  one of the remixes is getting pressed 10,000 times and getting handed out at WMC.  i couldn't turn that down :-)

Awesome, I knew you guys knew there was one more genre of dance music out there besides progressive  .

No but if you like trance, that much promotion would be hard not to go with.  Hopefully it does well for you.
