Title: scracthlive.net never buy vinyl again! Post by: Void Dweller on December 05, 2006, 10:18:51 PM OOPs, i put this in Producing, shoulda gone here...
:-X Yikes, A friend of mine just got this and he is loving it. He's been mixing vinyl for yrs now and THIS is unbelievable. Watch the tutorials. Any vinyl junkie should check this out. He said RANE and Windows are haveing a little dispute over a patent or something. Hopefully its resolved. He did have one glitch because of this and lost 15sec at a gig when a compatibility pop up stopped the show. But that was it so far. I would so love to play around with this. Can be used with CDJ's as well. You get blank records or cd's that read mp3s off your HD. 3 modes of play...everything in your library is now vinyl. just incredible. check it out www.scratchlive.net Title: Re: scracthlive.net never buy vinyl again! Post by: Kfezzik on December 07, 2006, 09:57:40 AM thats not breaking news, most DJ types are well aware of this software/hardware.....
digitals eventual replacement of vinyl is inevitable... however not without its down side. I went to this warehouse party to hear Derrik May play (an original instigator of the Detroit techno genre) All the techno/tech-house DJS that opened for him used Scratch Live (called Serrato by most) it went hay-wire several times and kept speeding up/slowing down, making wierd noises. They tried to mix/do things to make it sound intentional... different ravers familiar with the software/hardware/interface-mess tried to help.. they managed to fix the totally un-explained and un-predictable problems. Then Derrick May came on with his milk crates of records & proceeded to raise the roof with hours of better-sounding, non-crashing vinyl records... For me, in spite of liking vinyl better for tactile hands-on simplicity, and they do (yes) last longer than your average CD-R or hard-drive, I think eventually I will go all digital. My MP3 collection is growing 10 times as fast as the vinyl collection and I only have so much money. Plus, in the future when they run out of oil, no more vinyl!! Post by: Jay on December 07, 2006, 07:26:12 PM Even if (which i hopefully will afford one day!) i get some nice cd decks or somethin like serato, i will always buy vinyl - theres just too much good music out there which needs to be re-discovered.
But i think im more from the hip hop school of thoight when it comes to my djing! I love to dig for those gems! hehe  Would really enjoy a nice pair of cdj1000s though! wish i could afford some new dj gear i miss my decks since they broke! :'( Title: Re: scracthlive.net never buy vinyl again! Post by: Void Dweller on December 08, 2006, 02:24:16 PM Dude, too bad you didnt know me like 8 yrs ago when i sold most of my old school hip hop stuff. (yea, i know ...WHAT!?) My inspector gadget 12" went for $75 alone on ebay. The run dmc collection went for over $100. I was shocked. But all i had left was the vinyl. Schoolly D(shoulda kept) ll cool j(shoulda kept). I just sold them cause i was tired of luggin them around. Had to hold on to mantronix though.
From '98-about '03 was my "dig deep and find myself' yrs. ah well though. One thing let go another blessing took its place. BUT, the guy(my friend) who told me about scratchlive has ALL the OS stuff. I gave him all my public enemy singles when i moved from connecticut. He's been hatin luggin crates lately. Had some stuff ganked at a show. But hes workin on switchin to digital. Cause you can play that OS stuff with SL and bring the vinyl for those special moments...mmmmmmmmm. -m- |
