Title: Jesus Camp Post by: Alex W on November 04, 2006, 04:09:29 PM have you guys seen stuff on this?
videogoogle it and watch teh trailer for it and some of the other videos... im a pentecostal christian and this stuff is givin me a bad vibe. either something is not quite right or the media is spinning it. hopefully you see the one where the pastor is talking about being 1 way at church and 1 way at school is pretty bad. throwin shame on the kids i think. wanted to let you guys know about this. Title: Re: Jesus Camp Post by: Dave Richards on November 04, 2006, 09:18:40 PM I heard an interview with the directors. There is NO WAY dispite their claims that they intended this to be a "positive" look on evangelicals.
Title: Re: Jesus Camp Post by: Alex W on November 06, 2006, 11:01:07 AM yea, but even with that i see some serious issues with it. gonna try to find the whole thing to watch.
Title: Re: Jesus Camp Post by: Brandon on November 06, 2006, 01:14:09 PM Let's try to keep discussion on this to a minimum, unless it's relevant somehow to dance music... ;)
Title: Re: Jesus Camp Post by: Dave Richards on November 06, 2006, 02:19:56 PM agreed.
Title: Re: Jesus Camp Post by: Saj on November 06, 2006, 03:02:41 PM Let's try to keep discussion on this to a minimum, unless it's relevant somehow to dance music... ;) Considering it's in the Chill Out section, and considering we are a christian dance site, I do think there is a validity to it being dicussed. Lord knows I've seen a lot lot lot less relevant stuff discussed in these forums. So where I'd agree not to get our feathers to ruffled and to limit it to just this forum. I don't see it as being drastically irrellevant. - Saj Title: Re: Jesus Camp Post by: Alex W on November 06, 2006, 04:55:50 PM saj, you probably werent around when people were allowed to talk about just about anything.
you should probably thank God you werent. it got pretty bad. read the forum rules, they are what they are for a good reason. rarely anymore do mods have to lock threads and such. Actually, I was around when people talked about just about anything. And well beyond. But there is a difference IMHO between something that is relevant to christianity at present and all the talk of farting and masterbation and Lord knows what else that used to go on back then. But I do not think this topic falls into that crud. *shrug* To me it's kind of gone from one extreme to the other. Um...why not get rid of the dance thread. I mean frankly, if it's about dance, it shouldn't be in the chill out forum. And if you can't even talk about anything related to christianity or spirituality. Which I would expect to be the secondary topic for such boards. I wonder if there should even be a chill out thread. *shrug* But that's just me... Title: Re: Jesus Camp Post by: Alex W on November 07, 2006, 05:33:03 PM then you should understand better then some the reason for that rule.
i could probably debate some of the stuff in there for months. but that is not what we are here to do. debating like that causes division in this community where we have been attempting to create unity. sometimes we just dont need to talk about somethings, whether the rules allow it or not. If you start a thread like this, it will be locked. If someone makes a political or spiritual comment in a pre-existing thread, that is fine, so long as it does not shift the course of the discussion. If it does, the thread will be locked. You are free to talk about a LOT of spiritual topics here. There's DJ led worship. There's evangelism. There's discussing how to resist temptation in secular clubs. There's doing ministry work in the scene. I still to this day do not understand why people feel that we can't talk spiritual stuff here. The only people keeping that out are the people posting. If you want to talk about spiritual things as they relate to the dance scene please do so. I would wholly support it. It however is a bold faced lie to say that spiritual discussions are completely banned here. If you can't have the type of spiritual debate/discussion that you want here, there are thousands of other sites that will let you have them. As far as chillout being ok... that's because we don't fight on those threads and cause division. If we could do that with the free-form spiritual discussions, we'd have them here. Same with politics. All of us are too attached to our specific beliefs to handle these things however without being childish in the process. They are a stumbling block to this community. |
