Title: Beatport's Myspace page
Post by: Dave Richards on October 11, 2006, 09:51:54 PM
I can't believe this. It's like the store was copied over.

Check it. (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=6792717)

And it's not done completely in flash! I wish they'd do that to the store.

NOOOOO!!! The flash is what actually makes the beatport interface WORK. Without flash, the usability would go WAY down. WAY WAY down.

since beatport is like 10 minutes from my house...ive been there a few times. Beatport is actually part owned by a huge national graphic, web design company. Their spot is so beautiful. imagine a 4 story loft..all wooden floors...with about 40 g5s on each floor. Their web designers are fricken amazing! Beatport bascially owns the denver nightlife here with one of the main founders just recently buying out the biggest club called "The Church" which he apperently paid 4 million in cash for.

I always gots lot of juicy beatport gossip :)

beatport's newest interface is not fun for first time users.  i've been buying from beatport for years now and their newest update is the worst.  its a better buying system than most independant mp3 stores, but their newest update is much more confusing for browsing purposes than others.

Until Adobe puts out a better flash plugin that doesn't take up 3.9 terabytes of memory and doesn't crash all the time, i'd rather they do it with AJAX. That way it doesn't refresh the page everytime and the back button stays broken, so it's the best of both worlds ;).

But I don't buy anything from beatport so i guess I really don't have any kind of say in what goes on there.

well, what would you think i should change then?

it's not extentions, i just fired it up in safe mode. Crashed before beatport loaded up, then crashed again after playing the first song.

I'm just saying with all the problems you seem to have in general with computers... maybe it's the way you configured your machine. Just saying. I don't know how you screwed it up so... ;)

There was a flash problem a while back with FF though on beatport. I'm 90% sure they resolved it though. It was some conflict with the latest version... or the one before this I dunno. It was 3-6 months ago.

Maybe flash doesn't like 4 logical CPU's. I wonder if turning hyperthreading off would help any? Duno... I didn't really think that flash was a multi-threaded app, but maybe it is.

Maybe... it's something you installed. Seriously. When was the last time you formated your machine?

well... you did something wrong... or maybe there is a known bug with you hardware setup. Not everybody rungs for 4 cpus you know.

i highly doubt I did somthing wrong formatting. One day i'll turn hyperthreading off and try it like that. Then if that doesn't work, i'll turn off the second CPU and try it like that.

It's not hyperthreading. I use that at home just fine.

well, i updated flash (i had version 8) and that seems to have fixed it. Still doesn't make me like all-flash interfaces, but it's better it doesn't crash now.

hmmm... so... it was YOUR fault. Nice.  8 is like 2 versions behind.

not MY fault that flash didn't make their software backward compatable with itself.

and 8 is only 1 version behind, not 2

and it still doesn't make the beatport page any better, and we're gona have to just chalk that one up to taste.

According to beatport's page, flash 8 is supposedly supported.

Just my luck that the latest linux flash player is version 7...
