Title: KIRSTY HAWKSHAW Vs KINKY ROLAND : Fine Day 2008 [CDS] - [SPCDS10213]
Post by: DJuiceD on May 07, 2008, 11:45:39 AM
You KNOW the tune.

Early nineties uber classic 'Fine Day' by Opus 3 is one of those songs that conjures up images of where you were and who you were with when you first heard it. Now, Kirsty Hawkshaw has dusted off the sleeve jacket, re-laid the vocals and called in Future Freakz and Fahrenheit for remix duties.

# Fine Day 2008 (Future Freakz radio edit)
# Fine Day 2008 (original radio edit)
# Fine Day 2008 (KW remix)
# Fine Day 2008 (Fahrenheit remix)
# Fine Day 2008 (Future Freakz remix)
# Fine Day 2008 (original club mix)

My favourite versions are KW's and FAHRENHEIT's...but probably like KW more! :)

??? interesting post indeed, I like the idea of remixes and even more remixes. This reminds of me what is happening from time to time, remake of classic movies and they end up being horrible remakes. Not to disqualify this as being a musical mistake, I dont think it would suck might actually be a good move for a dare I say it "come back", lol. Maybe, just maybe this would motivate alot of the knuckleheads who "used" to make good tracks, and just disappeared from the place of the planet, to return from under their rocks, and jam out some good tranz or edm in general. What I would like to see is more remixes of Christian artists, even if thier older songs should be remixed by newer artists, that would be a cool way introduce the classic stuff on a different level for 2008, or something.
I am hungry now, time to eat.  8)

Really? MORE remixes of It's a Fine Day? Is it necessary? Has the dance scene run out of ideas finally? What's next, more remixes of Better Off Alone?

Wow I am jaded.

:o dear God....

I'm sorry!  I was kidding.  I actually have no idea.

Still, never underestimate people's appetite for re-heated music.

my last comment was me being silly. Still it would not surprise me if it did get more remixes.

NEVER! Loving the classics is one thing. Rehashing them more than maybe once is just unoriginal. I can understand doing remixes of a classic track to rekindle the joy once. For instance, if Zarc Porter decided to have NEW remixes of "The Real Thing" done for 2008,  that would totally be acceptable and rock. Why? because this would be the first time remixes have been done since the original track and remixes in the late 1990's. It would be reviving a legendary track. However, if the remixes kept coming for several years, then it would just be overkill and ridiculous.

The original Fine Day came out in the early 90's. In 1999 or around there the track was revived by Miss Jane and there was a ton of remixes and bootlegs out there. That was acceptable. Since then, the bootlegs and mashups really haven't stopped. Now there is gonna be an official remix project...again? That's what I mean. No one really let the track die down. It just got old.

You're not the only one who feels that way, and you have every right to express yourself  :)

Now, here's my 10 cents:

The real thing is old, remixing it again now (even once) is not letting it die  ;)

After that, who cares if it's just once or if it's ten times?

Personally I wouldn't mind if it was remixed, as that's no different than me still enjoying the old version, or the remixes that were done at the time.

Why should I be allowed to still enjoy the old version, but be opposed to allowing someone else who enjoys it trying to revitalize it?

You could argue that it won't sell, or that DJs stuck in the past won't be successful because they aren't keeping up with what's hot right now, but you just can't stop people from expressing themselves or liking what they like, even if it doesn't fit with the popular trend.

I don't think music has an expiration date, and I think it's funny when we try and take something as abstract as art, and force it to fit into some sort of box, or rules structure.

It's like we are trying to lasso it with cold hard logic, and we can't figure out why we can't contain it!

The problem I have with this release is that it is being presented like Kirsty's first rehash of the song was some sort of classic. I like her voice a lot, but she added absolutely nothing to the song the first time she recorded it, so a "2008" version seems kind of pointless, unless they want to try and give it a better effort this time.

I totally believe, the secular scene is running out of ideas, which is a good thing for us as artists.
Idk if anyone else has noticed this, however I find that the mainstream is becoming stupider and stupider day by day, which is why I don't listen to the radio anymore, except for classics and stuff like that.

I agree with mike on this one, Stuff like the Gabriel & Dresden Remix of Nicole Sponberg, there needs to be more tracks like that IMO.....of course in more than one genre as well.
