Title: Captain America might still be alive... Post by: Dancechapel on May 05, 2008, 07:46:01 AM In Captain America #37 - Bucky (Winter Soldier) who is currently wearing the uniform, and Sharon Carter are both sneaking around the Red Skull's place, and discover stasis tanks with multiple Steve Rogers (original Cap) in them.
May be clones, may be skrulls, but one may be the original cap! We'll see what happens with that. Also, Avengers/Invaders comes out this week, and the Invaders from the 40's (which definitely includes the original Cap) are some how time traveled to present day and try to make sense of everything being so different. Title: Re: Captain America might still be alive... Post by: Dancechapel on May 05, 2008, 09:10:40 AM yeah, yeah...
There already is an Ultimate universe where Cap is alive and well, but if you ask John Christian, he doesn't like that Cap :) I know he would be excited if the original were still around. Even if they were, you can always write them back in as an alternate universe or something. That's true, but alternate reality/universe isn't the get out of jail (death) free card. The editors and writers have to come up with a real plot device to write the dead character back into the same time line. That's what makes it fun! That's what separates having Cap die in the main continuity line from Elseworlds stuff like Superman being one of many Green Lanterns who happens to be assigned to Earth. That book (Superman: Last Son Of Earth) was confusing! Title: Re: Captain America might still be alive... They're the ones that created the stereotype. It's a comic book. Nobody ever is totally written out. Even if they were, you can always write them back in as an alternate universe or something. Though I still have yet to read the most recent issue--I'm a week or two behind on all of my books--I've actually been diligently reading Ed Brubaker & Steve Epting's run of Captain America and I have become extremely fond of every single issue. Brubaker/Epting have succeeded in making Cap my all-time-favorite Marvel character and a very close rival to my "all-time-favorite-comic-book-character-period," Batman. I must say that the current Captain America book is greater than the current Batman book. The now famous "Death of Captain America" (The Death of The Dream) story was greatly written/drawn; it truly was a moving piece and it reminded me of our brave men and women of the military, both past and present, fighting (and dying) for the ideals of America. It was a shame how they were mandated to come to the conclusion of Cap's death through the atrocious Marvel Civil War; How Marvel EIC Joe Quesada continued to prostitute himself to the media: even to the point of giving Stephen Colbert (a comedian, albeit political one) a replica of Cap's shield, claiming it to be the original and stating that "Cap would've wanted you to have this." In light of that cheap publicity-stunt, after the cheap move of "erasing Peter and Mary-Jane Parker's marriage from history" I once joked that Quesada would next offer their wedding-rings to Colbert as another gift. But in spite of all that, Captain America still continues to be a great book. Whether or not Steve Rogers (original Cap) is actually resurrected (no clones or past-selves) or James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes continues his legacy, I'm still proud to be reading such a fine book. It's a comic book. Nobody ever is totally written out. Even if they were, you can always write them back in as an alternate universe or something. Only people who buy said books are allowed to speak of such things. You don't get too. :P Title: Re: Captain America might still be alive... I have a first amendment that says I can ;) And I have a Second Amendment that says you can't. *Chk-chk* j/k ;) Let me rephrase by saying that you can, but that doesn't make your comment anymore valid than before. :smiley23: :smiley1: Title: Re: Captain America might still be alive... Post by: Dave Richards on May 05, 2008, 02:50:47 PM you know... a reasonable person could argue that the 2nd also gives me the right to have my own nuclear arsenal. Fortunately, our capitalist economy would prevent that even if other laws didn't :)

Title: Re: Captain America might still be alive... Post by: Dancechapel on May 08, 2008, 09:53:25 AM The end of Secret Invasion 2 makes it look like Cap may still be alive too.
Title: Re: Captain America might still be alive... Post by: thepudd on May 08, 2008, 03:11:45 PM Comic book heroes are never really dead. We know this :)
But it'll be cool to see what happens. Title: Re: Captain America might still be alive... Post by: Dancechapel on May 09, 2008, 07:17:23 AM The original Blue beetle is still dead.
I'm sure there are more, but his death was so graphic it came to mind first! You're right though, when it's someone big like Cap or Superman, you know they won't stay dead  Title: Re: Captain America might still be alive... Post by: john.christian on May 09, 2008, 01:18:35 PM The original Blue beetle is still dead. I'm sure there are more, but his death was so graphic it came to mind first! At first I was wondering if you were speaking of the actual original (Golden Age) Blue Beetle (Dan Garret), but by what you said "his death was so graphic" you must mean Ted Kord. Technically Ted is still alive too. In the new Booster Gold series, Booster has gone back in time to remove Ted from the point in time of his death. So, in theory, the rest of the world will remember Ted being shot but he will still live on outside the Timestream with Booster, continuing with Booster work to police the Timestream. However this has unintentionally altered the Timestream for the worse, so it remains to be seen if Ted will have to die like he was supposed too in order to correct reality.
