Title: Tastyfresh Presents: Episode 16 - Deeflash and Tim Richards Post by: Dave Richards on April 24, 2008, 07:49:29 AM It’s April 2008 and we’re starting to count down the days until the next Cornerstone Music Festival (www.cornerstonefestival.com). This month, we have the Afterhours EDM stage (www.tastyfresh.com/afterhours) festival opener Deeflash. We also have New Zealander Tim Richards who’s music can be seen at the top of the tech house charts and is supported by Sasha, Pete Tong and many, many others. You can also catch him Thursdays on George FM (www.georgefm.co.nz).
Here's all the rest of the info. (http://www.tastyfresh.com/content/view/485/103/) Download by hitting the subscribe button on that page or subscribe by hitting that same button. You can also grab it in iTunes via the iTunes button. Have fun. It's a great show this time. Deeflash, your set was pretty sweet. Nice tracks throughout, I would have liked a tiny bit more layering though, I thought it was a bit sparse in parts. Tim Richards, great stuff! Proud of the New Zealand brothers. Title: Re: Tastyfresh Presents: Episode 16 - Deeflash and Tim Richards Post by: Dave Richards on April 25, 2008, 01:51:50 PM My only beef is my constant shiloh one. Nobody can drop a shiloh track into a set w/o it standing out way WAY too much from everything else. I talked to Oneel about it and honestly, he's saying about the only way it works is if you know you want to play a shiloh track and you play 2-3 songs prior to it just to get the stage set right. If you don't do it, it's not gonna fit in very well.
Title: Re: Tastyfresh Presents: Episode 16 - Deeflash and Tim Richards Post by: deeflash on April 26, 2008, 07:50:05 AM yeah I kinda agree... that's why I looped the drums for about a minute before I started the track :-)
Title: Re: Tastyfresh Presents: Episode 16 - Deeflash and Tim Richards Post by: Dave Richards on April 26, 2008, 08:26:25 AM yeah.... my beef is that it STILL stuck out like a shiloh track sticks out :)
Title: Re: Tastyfresh Presents: Episode 16 - Deeflash and Tim Richards Post by: thepudd on April 26, 2008, 08:44:09 AM In what sense would you say it's a beef? Do you wish Shiloh tracks didn't stick out, or would you rather the track not be in this mix?
Title: Re: Tastyfresh Presents: Episode 16 - Deeflash and Tim Richards Post by: deeflash on April 26, 2008, 12:22:36 PM I think he just means that shiloh tracks are very well produced and have a very full sound compared to other tracks so it's hard to go from a Shiloh track to another track without it being obvious... either that or he listens to shiloh so much that he is like, "shiloh. eh." :-)
Title: Re: Tastyfresh Presents: Episode 16 - Deeflash and Tim Richards Post by: Dave Richards on April 26, 2008, 12:32:05 PM I wish shiloh tracks didn't stick out so much ;)
Title: Re: Tastyfresh Presents: Episode 16 - Deeflash and Tim Richards Post by: thepudd on April 26, 2008, 02:36:20 PM Ahh, it's jealousy then! ;)
Title: Re: Tastyfresh Presents: Episode 16 - Deeflash and Tim Richards Post by: Dave Richards on April 26, 2008, 03:29:27 PM Not really. Shiloh's sound is so unique that their stuff ALWAYS stands out. It's not just a quality factor. They guys get the position and rep they deserve, but their music is so obviously them it's not funny. Every other track in just about every set that contains a Shiloh track can somehow remain anonymous, but then as soon as a Shiloh track comes on, everybody knows whose it is.
Title: Re: Tastyfresh Presents: Episode 16 - Deeflash and Tim Richards Post by: thepudd on April 27, 2008, 03:02:15 AM Thaaat's what I was looking for.
Interesting observation. I wonder if they wouldn't be where they are today if they hadn't made their music stand out from the crowd? Title: Re: Tastyfresh Presents: Episode 16 - Deeflash and Tim Richards Post by: Dave Richards on April 27, 2008, 05:41:41 AM Of course they still would. Remember, today Colin is a graphic designer working for the largest Christian bookseller in Canada (if I remember correctly) and Justin is trying his hand at video game music. They aren't making a living off their music at the moment... or at least not solely music :)
Look, all I'm saying is that they're style is very unique, almost too unique. Title: Re: Tastyfresh Presents: Episode 16 - Deeflash and Tim Richards Post by: thepudd on April 27, 2008, 07:34:02 AM Look, all I'm saying is that they're style is very unique, almost too unique. No no, I understand. I'm just intrigued at the dynamics that causes. I would generally say that what we need in EDM today is more unique artists. I'm a trance and progressive DJ right... so inside that you can hear ANY amount of formulaic music. There's brand new stuff coming out, that sounds just like other brand new stuff coming out... and this has been happenning for ages. For that reason, I appreciate artists like Shiloh who (intentionally or otherwise) have a unique sound. If I have to build in and out of their tracks with a few other ones, and work a little harder to make it acoustically fit, I'm fine with that. I feel the same way about Chemical Bothers; mixing most of their stuff into my sets verbatim is a serious challenge. And I think that challenge produces good things. Maybe in an individual mix you'll alienate a those listeners who don't like being pushed a certain way acoustically. But maybe you'll contribute to new definitions and styles, pushing what's allowed to be called "trance" or something like that. Just thinking out loud. Title: Re: Tastyfresh Presents: Episode 16 - Deeflash and Tim Richards Post by: Just Drew on April 27, 2008, 08:50:03 AM I'm liking Tim Richards' first track... v.cool. Great intro to it too.
Also liked the tune at 31mins I'm guessing that's a Shiloh one given the following discussion? Dave, that VO was too quiet btw... I guess you mixed it on headphones right? Title: Re: Tastyfresh Presents: Episode 16 - Deeflash and Tim Richards Post by: Dave Richards on April 27, 2008, 11:23:18 AM I'm screwing around with things on my system right now. It's a long story. At least there was less noise in it that the first 2 times I recorded it.
