Title: Help Starting a Groove Collective Post by: DJ Billy the Kid on April 08, 2008, 10:43:12 PM I live in Starkville, MS, The hometown of MSU! and in my youth group we currently have 4 people who are strong christians and like electronic, and i am introducing Christian Techno to them, but i would like advice on how to get more people in for a groove collective, i know it will be hard in MS, but i think having the college will help. My best friend works at papa jons so we can get 10+ pizzas for $5.99!! and me and one other there can spin, we're jus saving up for a mixer.
Any help is much appreciated. Title: Re: Help Starting a Groove Collective Post by: Dave Richards on April 09, 2008, 07:22:01 AM Start with just the 4 of you for now. Get something down solid. Then start looking elsewhere. Don't try to start out with 20+ people at one time. It won't work that way. Think small for now. Dumb question... are all of you old enough to go to clubs?

So if theres 4 of you then thats a good reason to start a groove collective. Others will join in along the way! We do something here in the uk called 'revive' seeking God in the groove. Some months only a few turn up other times we have had 10 or more. We have had a mixture of people who are clubbers djs or producers or even people who just enjoy what we do. I find it a time to really encourage my faith and be inspired by others commitment to dj club culture! Our format is usually start with some food. Followed by a time of worship using the decks / or electronic music The a mini party/dancing afterwards. We find conversations of faith and God flow naturally through the gathering. How often should it be? lol none of us are old enough to go to clubs yet. Will that be a obstacle with getting more people in?
(i know its wrong forum but) Any advice on what kind of mixer we should get? (i know its wrong forum but) Any advice on what kind of mixer we should get? Again start where you are? Maybe start with every other month? Its a good idea if you do that to stick to the same day so first friday of the month or last saturday of the month! It helps people to know when its happening and make it. Also heres myspace page gives u an idea of our description etc! http://www.myspace.com/revivegroove Why not work out what u need. For example, Do u need to use cds decks as well as turntables and even digital gear? Then Post yr requirements on the dj board. If everyones using the same decks then its likely to be a simple mixer. But these days everyone uses a different setup ie laptops, cd decks. Also put yr budget in the post! Title: Re: Help Starting a Groove Collective Post by: Coosh on April 15, 2008, 07:58:38 AM To be honest bro...the best things you could do would be to build start small with a great group and earnestly pray that God would bring people. We..."Nocturnal Groove Fellowship" did just that...granted we are in the SF bay area...but It was mind blowing how God had people coming out of the woodworks to be part of our fellowship. At one time...we were actually thinking about limiting the number of people involved..but realized that God was moving and we would be "restricting" His movement by putting limits on it.
:) Title: Re: Help Starting a Groove Collective Post by: Christopher Carl on April 16, 2008, 05:03:33 PM you've already got two of the essentials.
1. people who like electronic music who just happen to be christians 2. food Now you just need the following 3. someone's house to meet at 4. some music to groove to while you fellowship You could start at your house. We (Southern California Groove Fellowship) usually set up some turntables and CD players with a small sound set up and rotated each other dj'ing, but if you can't spin, just set up a cd stereo thingy and play some mixsets. I recommend having a time where you shut the music off for a few minutes and spend time reading the Bible and discussing the scriptures. Close with prayer requests and then bump the music again. Good luck. Title: Re: Help Starting a Groove Collective Post by: DJ Billy the Kid on April 16, 2008, 09:28:27 PM Alright i have discussed this with my fellow brothers and sisters and they all want to, and we are simply needing a place to have it at with no complaints for loud music. But we have a few promising spots that will hopefully work out. I actually dont live at my house :'( except for monday and tuesday.
And to Coosh, did u also actively promote it? |
