Title: Nightclub Missionary: Support needed *Update* Post by: Alex Wilson on January 03, 2008, 09:35:59 PM So, I just wanted to throw out another post about my missionary adventures.
Im heading back out to Brighton England to do ministry in the dance clubs there. If you could keep me in your prayers, I need another $450 or so before I can head back out. I'm trying to get out there by March. Please keep me in your prayers, throw my name out to your churches, friends whoever. I'll have another letter out in the next few days for you if you want to send it to your churches and such. I also have a website coming, a DVD promotional thing and a few other promo things coming out soon. Please send me an email if you have any questions or want any materials for your church. Alex Update: So I wanted to also go ahead and put in abit more information about what I do and whatnot. As I have been praying and seeking God on how to reach the dance music community in Brighton, I really felt that the most effective way to go about doing that is to become a part of the community. So I will be going in as a DJ, promoting myself and any other Christian DJs in the UK that want to be a part and hopefully throwing some successful events. I work with Youth with a Mission in Brighton, which is what we call a satellite base of Holmsted Manor (you can google both). I will be building relationships with those in the dance music scene to do relational evangelism and serving the people in the clubs (taking drunk people home, giving out water to rehydrate people, and the like). Now, there are several different ways to get involved. The first is to commit to prayer for me, for my finances, and for spiritual strength for me. Anyone who has been a part of the secular dance music scene knows the dangers, and they are great. The second is to take my mission to your sphere of friends, church or whoever, the more people know about this, the quicker I can get out there and get to work. The last way is to give financially, either in a 1 time gift to help me get there, or or on a monthly basis to keep me there. Monthly commitments need to be on a 1 or 2 year basis, that way i i know i can count on a certain amount of money until a certain point. Title: Re: Nightclub Missionary: Support needed Post by: Doug Theodore on January 04, 2008, 12:02:29 AM where is the paypal address that we can drop money into it to donate to your cause. Is the 450 the total amount you need left to make it. Surely tastyfresh can hook up this club missionary and make it happen quickly.
Alex is a real neat guy, who is passionate about club-goers and their eternal path. I met him over NYE and hung with him for 3 days. I think he is a serious young leader for the global dance community. So yeah help him out with his support. Now where do we give support to? doug Title: Re: Nightclub Missionary: Support needed Post by: Alex Wilson on January 04, 2008, 01:19:45 PM its $450 per month for 2 years, thats the kicker doug, the paypal is my personal email address. should be listed on my profile..

The next 2 weeks are my churches missions Sundays. This means that pretty much the entire church is going to be praying about how God wants them to give. I have my work cut out, I need to get my name out. I need to get through this current medical setback.

Do you always type in slang? I'm not trying to start something, I just don't understand how people can type out phonetically how they would actually say it. If you speak like this in real life, I get it. It helps to define who you want to come across as. Totally understandable. But when you type out HOW you want it to sound to the reader, it makes you look unintelligent and young. I am not saying don't use shortcuts, I am saying try to type like you have some sense. People who post like you do really make it hard for the rest of the class to read what you are trying to say. Do us the favor and type like you want to be understood.
...and no, I'm not always a douche. I'm cranky and irritable because I am stuck in the hospital. Tomorrow, I might look back on my post here and hate myself for being so arrogant. For now, I'm right. LOL Blessings, dude. (Don't let me get to you.) Title: Re: Nightclub Missionary: Support needed *Update* Post by: Dave Richards on January 17, 2008, 02:05:11 PM ^ threadjacker!!!!

Title: Its alright Post by: DeBadge on January 17, 2008, 02:26:38 PM Thanks for the advice dude. I'm still a newbie here and so I apologize for that and I will now start typing formally. Don't worry I'm not >:(

Title: Re: Nightclub Missionary: Support needed *Update* Post by: Alex Wilson on February 08, 2008, 02:03:02 PM got a figure from a friend of mine, looks like i am up to $420!
however, as my last post says, there are some issues in brighton and i have alot of hard choices to make. i have a feeling i know what the right choice is, but i need some confirmation. pray for wisdom. Title: Re: Nightclub Missionary: Support needed *Update* Post by: Alex Wilson on March 29, 2008, 09:00:30 PM I just wanted to give you guys an update really quickly. A few months ago, I found out that the house that YWAM Brighton rents was going to be used for something else by the church starting in June. After alot of prayerand communication with YWAM Brighton as well as Holmsted Manor, I decided to move to Holmsted instead of Brighton on a temporary basis. I will be working with an established evangelism team which focuses on Brighton, Crawley, and Haywards Heath. My vision for club ministry fits in with the vision for the team as well. This is a pretty big thing since now I will have the support of several people whose passion is evangelism and will be able to work with me to really start this ministry and get it off the ground.
However, it also means that my monthly budget has gone up to $1000 (this is to accomodate an increase in living expenses as well as establishing some savings with a cut to person expenses). So please continue to pray for me. Again, if you feel God putting me and my mission in Brighton on your heart, please do not hesitate to send me an email or message for details or if you just want to get a better idea of what my mission is. Alex Title: Re: Nightclub Missionary: Support needed *Update* Post by: MrH on March 30, 2008, 11:07:51 AM Alex,
It may be costing more but working in a tean like the one you describe will add value to the work. I hope God will release the rest of the finances soon now a solid plan is there to work out your vision. Will pray for you. Howard Title: Re: Nightclub Missionary: Support needed *Update* Post by: the marksman on April 12, 2008, 10:13:40 AM just read your whole vision alex, well done mate, just keep pursuing and seeking God and it will happen (not always in the way we think it will) but just stay focused on Him. Hope to see ya soon mate.
Mark Title: Re: Nightclub Missionary: Support needed *Update* Post by: Alex Wilson on April 28, 2008, 08:58:45 PM I am very sorry it has been so long since my last update. It has been somewhat crazy around here. So I just want to give you a real quick update. I am still working as the full time warehouse man at the local Toyota dealership. This has been a real blessing to me since it provides medical benefits and allows me to have the time off I need to continue fundraising and doing ministry my home church. I am still teaching the high school Sunday school class at my church with my mentor, Jim Patterson as well as helping lead the youth group. I was even asked to teach at the youth group last month on purity of our hearts and minds.
God has really been challenging me about His power over the last few weeks. I was hanging out with an old friend a few weeks ago and he told me that God wanted me to dream bigger, that I was putting God in a box. That weekend I began to pray and dream bigger and felt that God was placing ideas in my head about my future as a DJ. Since then I have really been concentrating on building contacts in the music community, both in the UK and the US. I really feel that God is pulling me into that community to be the salt and the light. I am still concentrating on raising the necessary funds to return to the UK and work with the Evangelism Team at Holmsted Manor. My current budget is $1000 per month and I have about 30% raised currently. God has really been encouraging me through friends and just random people I meet. But I am still hard at work to raise the rest of that budget. Over the next several weeks I will be visiting some local churches to try and build some contacts and see if God wants them to partner with me in this. Please pray that God speaks to the church leaders I speak to and that God will direct me to the right people. I really believe that it is really important to have the right people partner with me. I am praying that each church that partners with me with support me for $200 per month for 2 years. This is a huge figure and I am not really sure how God can do it, but He said I needed to dream bigger. Please continue to pray for me in this. The last thing I would love for you to pray about is hosting a "Meet the missionary" night. This is basically just a really informal meeting where you bring some of your friends together and it gives me a chance to share my passion with more people so more and more people will pray and partner with me. This is a really important thing for me to share my passion with new people. So please pray about this. Also, please continue to pray for me for strength and if God wants you to partner with me. If you have any questions or maybe God has given you a word for me, please do not hesitate to call or email me. I would love to chat with you about it. Title: Re: Nightclub Missionary: Support needed *Update* Post by: Alex Wilson on May 16, 2008, 04:35:16 PM Please keep me in your prayers. I have a meeting on Sunday with some people that may or may not go well. We will have to see.
For those of you who have been praying about supporting, please press in on that. I really need to make some progress in the next few weeks or some serious problems will come up. I will have to pick up more hours at work, which means less time for fundraising, because I may not have a free place to stay anymore. Please keep me in your prayers! I will update more soon, some friends of mine have been giving me alot of confirmation and I just need to get some things lined up for it. Title: Re: Nightclub Missionary: Support needed *Update* Post by: Alex Wilson on May 29, 2008, 09:22:01 PM I have had about 6 local churches on my heart for the last few weeks. I had a meeting last Thursday that went EXTREMELY well. We will be meeting up again next week. However, I spoke with the pastor of 1 church this morning and his church has had some setbacks and so they really can't do anything. Please Continue to pray for me as I seek out new churchs to talk with.

Title: Re: Nightclub Missionary: Support needed *Update* Post by: Alex Wilson on June 06, 2008, 02:46:23 PM So another update really quickly.
I had a meeting with a local pastor on Tuesday. This pastor is on staff at a church in Richmond but is VERY well connected with essentially every church in Richmond. It went extremely well. He is going to be talking to his church and then set up a few meetings for me with some other people. This is an amazing momentum boost for me. On Wendsday I recieved a call from my friend who goes to a sister church of my church. He got me some information and gave me a person to call. I talked with them and found out that they look at new missionaries twice a year april and october. Sucks right? Well, the woman I talked to told me that for some reason that had to reschedual their April meeting for mid-June. I sent my information there and recieved word this morning that they had gotten it and would call me when they have had their meeting. I am really hopeful about this. I am also still waiting for a call back from a pastor from a church near here. Please continue to pray for favor with these local church that I am talking with. I have about 5 churches that I am currently in contact with and a few that I have yet to get a contact point with. Please pray that I would be able to find a way to talk with the churches that I need to talk with. Please also pray for this mission commitee meeting, that they would do what God wants them to do. I feel like they postponded it just so that I could send in my information, so please pray for those. Title: Re: Nightclub Missionary: Support needed *Update* Post by: Alex Wilson on June 12, 2008, 02:03:55 PM So here is an update. I covet your prayers over the next 2 weeks for these things.
1: I got the missions directors information for a sister church of MCC (my church). I gave them a call and was talking with them and they told me to send my information to them. I emailed them and they said they would consider it at their meeting. I have not even met with them in person... Backstory: They usually meet twice a year, April and October. I found out that they had postponed it until mid-June. I really feel God is working, but I am stressed because I have never spoke with them in person... 2: I had a meeting with a prominent pastor in Richmond and he is talking with his church and will be getting me in contact with some small groups... 3: I have a follow up meeting another pastor on Monday. The first meeting I had with them was great, we hit it off from the start. So pray for that please. Again, I covet your prayers because I am pretty stressed and nervous... |
