Title: Private Callaway Post by: DJ Ellipse on December 29, 2007, 07:45:16 PM so its official... im being sworn in on wednesday as a private in the united states army, shipping to basic training january 23rd.
active duty my basicx training will be at fort jackson in south carolina, and my AIT for 6 months will be at fort gordon in GA, so all yall folks from the south best come say hi... er something... not sure how that will play out yet... but i anticipate ill be alowed to at least go off the base on the weekends? not sure... but anyway... please pray for me as this is an ABSOLUTE lifestyle change for me. but i will provide a story soon as to why this decision has been made, and why to most of you im sure seems like an "abrubt" decision, but i can assufre you... my life history states ive been ready for this since i was about 10. its in my blood. I will push hard, and do everything in my power to atain my ultimate goal, and that is to become a pilot of an ah-64 Apache Longbow, or an ah-60 blackhawk helicoptor. I will be using the money they give me to go to school for aviation, and music. i will learn and atain both my lifelong dreams at the same time! WOO! how can it get any better than that right? im excited beyond reason, scared to death of leaving my omfort zone in the dust, because i have officially been ejected from it like a frat boy drinks a beer. this is my dream, and it is what ive been praying about for a very long time... i guess patience really does pay off! ill tell yall the long long story of what made me come to this decision when i have more time to type it out heh because it really is rather long. but for now. selfless service is something that i invite whole heartedly. I hope that i can serve you all as well if not better than the brave men and women before me. and keep this country safe for another few years... Title: Re: Private Callaway Post by: Doug Theodore on December 29, 2007, 07:47:08 PM ill come see ya when ya hit fort gorden dude!!!
Title: Re: Private Callaway Post by: DJ Ellipse on December 29, 2007, 08:07:36 PM yay! and dont think that just because i joined the army means im going to give up music HECK NO!!! ARE YOU KUHRAZUH!!! it just means i changed my day job to something less suck, and more not suck!
Title: Re: Private Callaway Post by: djdunamis on December 29, 2007, 09:06:21 PM where's fort gordon?
like doug, let me know when you get there, I'll be able to visit ya then, not as long drive. 8) Title: Re: Private Callaway Post by: LJ Troll on December 30, 2007, 02:51:59 AM Do they still do the gas chambers as part of training? If so I recommend you practice holding your breath NOW!
.......I use to think it was silly to have the trainees do something like a gas chamber, but just two days ago my best friend who is serving as a missionary in Israel got tear gassed.....so apparently it's alot more relevant to have one than I thought. Title: Re: Private Callaway Post by: Nathan V on December 30, 2007, 03:20:50 AM where's fort gordon? like doug, let me know when you get there, I'll be able to visit ya then, not as long drive. 8) Augusta, GA. Do they still do the gas chambers as part of training? If so I recommend you practice holding your breath NOW! .......I use to think it was silly to have the trainees do something like a gas chamber, but just two days ago my best friend who is serving as a missionary in Israel got tear gassed.....so apparently it's alot more relevant to have one than I thought. Holding your breath doesn't work. You have to talk while in there. Title: Re: Private Callaway Post by: Nathan V on December 30, 2007, 03:21:42 AM Ellipse: There is NO time off in basic, and I recommend going to church on Sundays.... trust me.
Weekend off at Gordon will happen eventually but you have to earn it. Title: Re: Private Callaway Post by: Nathan V on December 30, 2007, 03:22:04 AM You're shipping almost when I did... 3 years ago.
Title: Re: Private Callaway Post by: LJ Troll on December 30, 2007, 05:14:13 AM Holding your breath doesn't work. You have to talk while in there. Oh. ::shrugs:: My mom told me about it years ago when I was in JROTC. She said something about holding your breath for as long as you could. Maybe it was different when she was in basic back in......I wanna say 1980? Title: Re: Private Callaway Post by: DJ Ellipse on December 30, 2007, 02:03:19 PM haha yea the gas chamber is gonna suck, but they use a type of gas that is much more tollerable than the chemicals they use in pepper spray, and i had to be pepper sprayed in my home defence course... nothing is worse than that... so im sure ill be pretty good in that case... just as long as they dont have to shot me with a tazor... i have nightmares from that thing...
Title: Re: Private Callaway Post by: Nathan V on December 30, 2007, 04:18:53 PM haha yea the gas chamber is gonna suck, but they use a type of gas that is much more tollerable than the chemicals they use in pepper spray, and i had to be pepper sprayed in my home defence course... nothing is worse than that... so im sure ill be pretty good in that case... just as long as they dont have to shot me with a tazor... i have nightmares from that thing... Wrong. CS is totally different. It attacks your lungs and throat as well as your eyes. Pepper spray is a kids toy in comparison. Why do you think they let people carry pepper spray and not CS gas? :p Title: Re: Private Callaway Post by: DJ Ellipse on December 30, 2007, 04:26:27 PM well then id like an order a pad kae mao with a # 45 spicyness, and could you jam that in my eyes for me please?

It seems like if Nathan was the one givin you the praises of the Army, then he would have told you all these nasty details before you signed up...or maybe that's the point in order to get ya in? J/K lol. I hope you learn a lot and get exactly what you want bro! Its too bad I'm not goin in with ya. (No, I won't go in, sorry guys, its against my own beliefs, but fine if u want to.) I hope we can chill and hang together for a time or two before you leave for B.T. If not, then we certainly had good times you know...at KFC! Fried Chicken FTW! Be blessed, j Title: Re: Private Callaway Post by: DJ Ellipse on January 03, 2008, 12:49:52 AM dood lol no, nathan has nothing to do with my decision to join the army, other than telling me how horrible basic training was... if anything he was a deterrent. my decision is based on experiences, and dreams ive had for a looooooong time

Title: Re: Private Callaway Post by: AlexB on January 17, 2008, 07:06:20 PM I was a United States Marine for a short period of time before I got hurt in SOI (School of Infantry) at Camp Lajune.
Also, I was in the Army Reserves for about a year before going active duty with the USMC. I did my basic at Ft. Jackson as well as AIT. It was a fun place. Got drunker there than Ive EVER been in my entire life. Dear God it was HORRIBLE....lol. I was dumb.....two boot camps, and two AIT schools within a little over a year span....and flat feet to boot, which was my undoing in the end, but I had a blast, well looking back at least....lol. Parris Island is NO joke. The DI's there aint right in the head. Good luck to ya man, and have fun! Going to Gordon....you have an MOS in communications?? Title: Re: Private Callaway Post by: AlexB on January 17, 2008, 07:25:59 PM For the MOS impaired, this is what those numbers and letters mean:
25B: Information Systems Operator The information systems operator-analyst supervises, installs, operates and performs unit level maintenance on multifunctional/multi-user information processing systems, peripheral equipment, and associated devices in mobile and fixed facilities; performs analyst functions; constructs, edits, and tests computer system programs; conducts data system studies and prepares documentation and specifications for proposals; operates and performs Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) on assigned vehicles and power generators 25S: Satellite Communication Systems Operator-Maintainer The satellite communication systems operator-maintainer supervises, installs, operates, and maintains strategic and tactical multi-channel satellite communications ground terminals, systems, networks, communication security (COMSEC) devices, and associated equipment. Operates and performs preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) on assigned communications equipment, vehicles, and power generators. Both fall under command of the US Army Signal Corps, which is located at Fort Gordon, Ga Not bad MOS's, either one of them. Both will afford you guys great jobs after your enlistment is up, should you choose not to re-up. Title: Re: Private Callaway Post by: Nathan V on January 18, 2008, 09:33:26 AM I've been a 25B for 3 years already... ;) And I'm now working at the evil empire. M$.
